The Lion Guard (2015 / 2016)
The only think I don't hope, is that they make an official theater movie about ''The Lion Guard''.
I don't think we have to worry unless Jake and the Never Land Pirates or Princess Sofia hits the Big Screen.

I'm seriously extremely excited for this. Yes, it's for preschoolers, but it's an EDUCATIONAL show and it's a Lion King show! That's just awesome. As an animator who has pitched to a major network already, and is learning about the industry, it saddens me to see that many networks are competing for.. well.. the world's dumbest and fast paced shows. They all want that Adventure Time style, (not saying Adventure Time is bad, or anything!) but it's too much of it. Nickelodeon said straight up to my business partner themselves that they do NOT want any educational shows. They want, "funny, random, colorful" animated series.

So an educational animated series is a breath of fresh air to me. I'm even more excited that Kiara will be in it, (she was always my favorite Disney "princess!") And a younger generation knowing about TLK? That's a major booyah in my book!

In short, this pup's super excited.

I am as curious as I am unconfident about this... However I do have some hope , at least in the art department they respect the original Lion king feeling , let's cross our finger so they are not the only one to respect TLK

The stills look very nice so far, ESPECIALLY for an animated series, where you have a much shorter amount of time to animate episode than you would a featured film. I'm not expecting the most incredible things, but I agree! I hope they keep elements of the original movie in there that give you that classic Lion King-y feeling. (is it bad that i'm kinda excited for songs, too? LOL)

I expect that songs would be on a show like this. I won't have a problem if they are not shoe horned in and if they have even a touch of Lion King style in them they could be quite enjoyable.

They're good in the art departement. Now let's hope they hired good voice actors, great writers and and good character developers...

I just don't see it living up to the movies... Not as a show and a main character whose name is a proxy of king and lion (King+lION=KION? Seriously Disney, nothing better? What happened to the Swahilian names?)

Actually, I'll tell you.

Have you ever realized how just about every fic ever written has the same characters? People think they're being unique by creating an OC with a Swahili name like Kivuli, Amani, Nzuri, Busara, etc. That couldn't be farther from the truth, though. It gets really old really fast. Everyone and their grandmother gives their Lion King character a Swahili name, thinking they're being really original.

And then people get upset when they see that someone else has a character with the same name--like really, who'd have thought that another person named their character the Swahili word for beautiful, just like I did? No, that's supposed to be *my* character's name, and you're obviously stealing it from me!!!1111oneoneone!

The name Kion is actually a better choice than any of the character names we've all heard thousands of times. Say what you will about it being a portmanteau of Lion and King, but it actually is unique.

Well still after beeing a LK fan since I was 3-4 years old, I am disapointed with the name choice. It makes sense but they could have been more creative if you ask me.

I had never heard the the name Kion before this series and if from what I've seen Kion is an Irish name meaning Young Warrior, perhaps more thought went into the name than you think. I wasn't to thrilled to hear the name at first but it has quickly grown on me.

Repeating an earlier post, but I heard someone theorizing that "Kion" is short for "Kiongozi", which is Swahili and means "guide" or "leader". I was a bit skeptical about the name at first, but as I've heard what people have been discovering about it, is seems surprisingly more nuanced than I first thought.
