Imvula was the third of four cubs born to the lioness, Thanda. The cubs' father was a leopard, and subsequently the resulting children were known as Marozi, creatures believed to bring misfortune to those that befriended and trusted them. Thanda was quite the opposite, she refused to believe the old stories. She loved her children down to her soul. Zira and her lionesses didn't the notice the extra cub spots the litter was born with, and Thanda hoped that they never would. Oh, how wrong she was.

Imvula's cubhood was dull, only having her siblings and the silly lion, Nuka, to play with was too sameish for the young leopon. Vitani and Kovu had little interest in playing with her. By the time Imvula was four months old, her life changed. One of Zira's lionesses has discovered Thanda's cubs' heritage and tried to kill them. Her mother did her best to save them, all but one of Imvula's siblings perished in the attack. Thanda had managed to save Imvula and her younger brother, Jahi. She took them to the safety of the Pridelands and hid them in a thicket. Imvula watched her mother die that night, and she is forever scarred by it. She and Jahi are later found by their father, Weusi and are taken to pride rock. Simba grants the cubs sanctuary and gives them to the lioness, Sanaa to raise.

Now in a new home, Imvula refuses to integrate into the pride. She seems to think that if she lets them get close to her, she'll lose them too. She carries this thought to adulthood and beyond.

At one year old, Imvula went on her first hunt along side the adolescent Kiara. Simba's daughter was hopeless, Imvula thought, the youngster had been coddled by her father far too much. Imvula's first hunt was successful, she had bagged herself a warthog. It was she was dragging her catch to the nearest tree, she spotted someone she recognized. Nuka. Bounding over to him like a crush-struck cub, she asked if he remembered her. To Imvula's delight, he did remember her. The pair met in secret for weeks, and after one of their meetings, Imvula discovered she was expecting her first litter. The day she was going to tell Nuka, she had found out that he had been crushed by logs. One more person Imvula's acursed heritage stole from her.

She gave birth to her first son, Sipho, shortly after the Outlands & Pridelands were reunited. Around the same time, Kiara & Kovu's son, Sher, was born. It was obvious from day one that the two cubs would be the best of friends.

Not long after Sipho's birth, Imvula left for a solo hunt and came across the rogue male, Sihle. It was love at first sight, but instead of rushing into things, the pair decided to get to know each other. Aquaintances became friends, friends became lovers. And those lovers became parents. Twin girls were born to Imvula and Sihle, they named them Akila and Huru.
