They should've made him Kovu and Kiara's cub or something.
Kion is a pretty stupid name though... I think Simba and Nala weren't really in a creative mood.
I wasn't sure of it either at first, But the more I thought about it the better I liked it, perhaps it will grow on you.

So much for me saying Disney are unlikely to create any new films/shows for some time in the other thread.

It's a shame they didn't take the chance to call the cub Kopa, seeing as it's unlikely anyone creating anything TLK wouldn't have stumbled across some mention of Kopa on the internet. But then again, as a comic named character, why should Disney follow what that particular artist called him? Up to Disney at the end of the day and I'm sure I will get used to Kion (key-on?), soon. (If it's like the Irish key-un I may not be able to get the Westlife singer image association out of my head for a bit, ha.)

Wow so much discussion about Kopa. It's just better that he was ditched out forever. Simba's Pride already happened. Kopa just can't become alive because he's older than Kiara therefore Kiara would never become a queen. That would make SP somewhat non-canon

If they do ever classify Kopa as a canon character, it hurts TLK 2: Simba's Pride critically

Honestly this show is a little off as it is. In Simba's Pride they made it seem like Simba was too old and weak to do anything useful (he was pretty pathetic imo). So how is he even going to be able to protect a new cub? Or have the energy to produce one for that matter :/

Yeah when I first heard of this series, my first thought was If it's about a Guard that Simba hires to protect The Pride Lands my character is just going to look like a Copy Cat

Simba and Nala for that matter are by no means elderly in Simba's Pride. In fact I'd say that they are younger in Simba's Pride than Mufasa and Sarabi were in The Lion King. The fact that He and Nala could produce, as well as look after another cub is not a far fetched idea in the least.

Hmm... I am undecided on this. The animation looks... OK... But I don't really like the fact they've made Simba and Nala have ANOTHER cub... Like Moo said.. Why not use Kopa? He already has a bit of a fanbase on the net and has been in kids books etc. And wth is up with that paw mark on his shoulder? :/

I think the reason they didn't make it Kovu and Kiara's cub is because TLK2 was nowhere near as popular as TLK. I mean, alot of the people i've spoken to about The Lion King to in real life hated TLK2 (Myself included) or hadn't even heard of it. But with an Oscar winning disney classic like The Lion King, alot of kids and older people will already recognize the characters.

I'll give it a go for sure... But I too have my doubts. Still, I enjoyed the Timon and Puumba series as a kid so ya never know.

BUT then how come in Simbas Pride he couldn't even fight off an older lioness? Zira has to be older than Simba and yet she was stronger than him. Let's be honest he was kind of a fat weenie in Simbas Pride.

Anyways but it can't be Kopa because of Simba's Pride. It would confuse people who actually like TLK 2 and kill its canonicity. Anyone who discover those movies after watching TLG would be confused where's Kopa in Simba's Pride

To be honest Simba was never really taught how to fight. That stems down to even the first movie as Nala seems to top him every time from cub to adult. The real fact is Simba doesn't know how to fight effectively. This being said it is perfectly valid for him to be bested by an older lioness. It's also not like she is just any old lioness. She was of course a tough, hardened, and not to mention fight starved lioness. She is used to having to fin for herself and fight off others to survive. After all she lived in Outlands; its not like she had lioness's bring her food everyday. ;)

--------
Anyway on to the topic; I do have some concerns for the show. Although that is all they are. Without more information it is hard to speculate anything for the show. It could do something like make Kiara a cub again or even take place well after Simba's Pride.

Essentially it will come down to either an epic failure of a television show or a complete success. Either way I'm going to give it a try. I have no doubt that there will be some annoying things in the show considering it has a target audience of preschoolers; however even MLP was focused on little girls and if you look at the fandom today you will see that it ranges far from it's target audience.

What really excites me about the show is that it actually focuses on a lion cub. To me I have always liked the lion cubs; Simba was the best. I prefer him as a lion cub any day; he had not only an imaginative mind, but I loved they way he was ornery and competitive not to mention cocky. 8-)

What concerns me the most is continuity. If they butcher any of the movies at all it throws canon out the door. I really want this story to be canon, and not just a spin off. If it can be considered canon then it opens the door for more to come! Can you imagine a real Lion King 3? ;) You know focusing on Kion, Kiara, and Kovu. I mean it could be anything. Kion could move to start his own pride, Kion could become like Scar, or maybe even Kovu shows his true "colors."

The only thing is that it has to be canon or else it will just end up like the Timon and Pumbaa show; an absolutely uncanon and failure of a tv show. (THAT GOD AWFUL VOICE OF TIMON.) with that being said I think it's appropriate to give it a wait until it comes out. Only then will we be able to tell if the show will be good or not.
