She stared down at the squirming cub in her paws. His innocent blue eyes sparkling in the beam of sunlight that came from their cell. He was big for a cub, bigger than normal. His fur was all fluff and soft. Other felines in the area agreed that he was a handsome boy. But...she knew what they said behind her back. It was unnatural for a tiger and a lion to be together. And this...this... abomination had come out. He was the reason why her beloved left... She wanted to hate the cub for it. The cub let out a giggle, a rare thing in this dark place. And it melted her heart. By the gods he even had his laugh. His spirit.
The cub reached up to his mother trying to touch her. She lifted her head up to avoid it. He thought they were playing a game and kept reaching for it, smiling and giggling. She loved him.. she knew it, but never said it to her own cub. He melted her heart with his smile. The very one that melted her heart when she saw her true love.
