Arida gulped. Her embarrassment radiated through her fur. Some of the inhabitants looked at her curiously, some with a bit of hostility.

Reese looked at the other pride members and snarled. "She's a guest. Leave her alone." They submissively curled up into a ball and some of them even shivered in fright. She snorted. "I guess it's just me, but my parents raised me to be kind to everyone, even if they had half a brain, and to take charge when need be."

Arida nodded. "I never really knew with my parents. I mean, I knew my mother because she raised me and my sister. But... as soon as I was old enough to catch my own prey she left me."

"That's just sad. I hate when mothers do that. I was disowned." Reese said.

[Iri]

"Oh... why were you disowned?" Pity stabbed Arida's heart.

"My mother and I...we never got along. I guess my sweetness as a cub was weak in her eyes and it hurt me in the longrun."

[Iri]

Arida felt sympathy welling up. "I'm... I'm so sorry about that," she murmured.

"It's fine. I kind of deserved it, anyway. I shouldn't have rebelled. I should've known that was the way my mother was." She bit her lip. "My father was worse, but you couldn't even get him to talk. My parents weren't the friendliest."

Arida nodded understandingly. "That's how my family is. Been there, done that."

"Yep. And then I was raised that being like that is a good thing. I mean, who would want to be friends with someone like that?!"
