Question about Simba and Mufasa.
on the second disk of the TLK SE, the animators said that they wanted to exaggerate Mufasa's stature to make him look more powerful. so if you think about it, Simba is really just the average lion size. I don't think they ever meant to make him as big as Mufasa, as that's part of their unique character designs much like how Sarabi is bigger than many of the lionesses.

I'll watch that 'journey' again sometime soon and see if they mentioned why they wanted Simba to be smaller.
Thanks! I knew it was something like that. :)

Well, Simba was smaller simply for the fact that Mufasa was supposed to be the powerful fatherly figure.

Thanks.

^which ties into Kopa's story arc

Mufasa in my mind was the absolute embodiment of The Lion King. His physical strength was pointed out many times in the movies, and we can assume that he was uncommonly large and powerful. If you freeze the film at the clip where Mufasa just threw himself out of the stampede onto the rock wall, he has the hugest arm muscles.

In the first movie Simba was still barely out of his teens, and it's tough to take Simba seriously compared to Mufasa based on their voices alone.

I agree with Thani.. *cough*Kopa*cough*

In the Special Features of the DVD, the animator working on Mufasa did mention how he wanted Mufasa to be huge. He overdid some features because Mufasa was the king, the leader, and he needed to look and feel like the biggest, strongest lion of the pride.

Of course Simba would not be a huge bunch of muscles, living off bugs since cubhood, but I also think that he wasn’t finished growing in TLK. At the end of TLK he is a young adult. In SP he does seem to have grown, and his body looks bigger and "fuller." (He’s not fat though.) :P Simba has matured into a fully grown adult, his new diet of meat giving him a bigger and stronger body. This also supports Kopa theories, as a lot of time seem to have passed between the end of TLK and the beginning of SP.

How large would you say Kovu is (when he'd older) in SP?

I'd say he's even smaller than (older) Simba was in the first movie. At least, he appears to be. But that could just be because Simba is larger in SP (according to you guys; I don't see a diff. in Simba's size in either film).

They both have AMAZING bodies...

...but Mufasa IS bigger and more well built. After all, he is the best. :)

Not that Simba isn't gorgeous! :)

:hey5: I think you're a little confused ^, lol

Idk man Simba sure is smaller and less muscled than Mufasa but I think that's only a thing of its morphology, plus what can you expect from a lion who maybe never has hunted something, and carried on with a diet based only on bugs, I mean, you can't ask for much.
