'I mean, dragons and ... Who knows what else. But I guess that's just a risk we'll have to take, right?' He looked at her anxiously.

'Yeah...I mean, if they explode, we'll have eachother, right?' She looks worriedly at him.

Xavier laughed despite himself.

'Yeah!' He assured her. 'Like I'd leave you on your own.'

River went to open the door and tell Xavier he could come back in, when she heard laughter. It was Lana and Xavier. Through the tiny gap, she could see them sat on the floor, close together. Oh, was all she could think.

'It's probably best not to go out,' she told Giovanni tightly. 'They're busy.'

Giovanni nods airily. 'So......You know magic, where did you learn it?'

'Oh,' River looked, surprised. 'You know the owner of the inn? The grey haired guy?' Giovanni nodded. 'He taught me everything, he protected me, always kept in touch... Basically, my mentor. He made me the best of the best, because apparently I would need it.'

'Oh....wow...' He says breathlessly.

River blushed. She did it's realise how vain that sounded, saying she was the best of the best.

'I didn't mean-'

'No, I didn't mean it like-' He starts.

River laughed shyly, rubbing her arm self consciously. Awkward much, she thought.
