I... I think I'm angry more than anything right now. REALLY. FREAKING. ANGRY. You know what? I don't give a toss how much anyone loves their precious guns. Guns aren't toys. I'm at the point where I would feel no sympathy for someone if all of their guns were taken away. I'm usually all about freedom but we've clearly shown that we can't handle freedom when it comes to guns. Guns have the power to end a life in a flippin' instant. No other weapon, other than ones the average citizen is not legally allowed to obtain, can do that. If mass shootings were a rarity, I probably wouldn't be arguing so strongly for stricter gun control, but dammit, that isn't the case. Mass shootings keep happening. 50. people. are. dead. Orlando broke me.

"But criminals will still get guns anyway!" Yes, they will, but the harder it is to do so, the less mass shootings that will occur. Even if we prevent just one of them a year, that's lives saved.

"But people will still use other weapons to kill!" You mean, like, knives? Which are pretty dang hard to kill people with in the first place, and security can actually deal with knives. Not that one person stabbed to death isn't a tragedy, but 50 shot to death is worse.

I think the sad thing is, the other things I feel right now. Fear. I am terrified that I live in a trigger-happy country where things like this happen. Guns are an offensive item, not a defensive item. I don't want a gun, I want a bulletproof vest. Guns make me feel 100% less safe.

And hopelessness. Because things like this keep happening, and I feel like we'll never do anything about it. I feel like stricter gun laws will never get passed, or if they do, they'll just be minor increases in restriction. It'll be too little, too late.

Argh god I know. This has been happening for years but it seems so many people just don't get how harmful this is. I mean it sounds ridiculous no way you word it, some people want what? The freedom to be able to kill other people? The freedom to "defend themselves"? Please, keep telling me how you'd start a gunfight with a criminal. Has that ever successfully happened? :ehh2:

It's such a pointless loss of life.

Unless it's in the hands of the authorities, like the police (and I'm saying that lightly, seeing how they seem to be more than capable of misconduct too), nobody needs a gun. You just don't. You can and will survive without a gun in your possession. So many countries are getting by just fine without most people owning their very own killing machine. And yes, I know that technically it's the person behind the gun who is the killing machine--but it would certainly help if those type of people didn't have access to a weapon.

And 'those type of people' could be anybody. So to be on the safe side, don't let anyone have one.

The only arguments I've ever heard are "2nd ammendment! :)" and "But the government's gonna kill us if we dont have guns :ehh2:"

Pathetic imo.

Pretty much, I mean my freedom to own a lethal weapon is more important than other people's lives... right? Right?

And am European, can confirm, the government has killed us all. I am writing this from the afterlife.

Freedom comes with responsibility, which the US lacks right now when it comes to guns because of its dangerous gun culture as Squeely said.

Not sure where to draw the line (banning all gun ownership outside of police, etc) but I do think you should have a valid reason and a sound mind to own one.

Of course, this discussion is meaningless. Everytime this happens it pops up, everytime nothing ever changes. Sigh. :headache:

I don't think humans are capable of soundly owning a gun or any sort of weapon. That might sound a bit pessimistic, but when you have the upperhand you're always going to be inclined to abuse it, even in a small, subtle way. The testing required to make sure that the owner wouldn't cross that line would have to be a lengthy process, imo, and not a simple 'oh, you aren't mentally ill? That's fine.'

To be fair I don't even know what the current process includes, but it sure as hell isn't working.

I just dont see why a member of the public should need a gun unless it's job specific. Also, it's been demonstrated in many countries that regular police are fine with tasers and batons-they don't need guns.

I reckon the only people that need them are specialist police units and the armed forces.

Ah yes, Skyrim Special Edition. That's totally a worthy thing to release we've all been dying for it. :)

Also guns suck in the hands of the average idiot and I've never seen an actual legit arguement for them to own one.
