Why are men allowed to have hairy legs/underarms but women are expected to be as hairless as small children? I dun get it...

^ I'm glad it's the thing to shave under arms as I think it would bother me to have hair there and just doesn't look right on women (partly due to society, I suppose). 
As to legs, I only usually bother to shave them in the summer when the legs start making an appearance. While they're hidden by trousers, why bother? 
I'm thinking I need to get some dinner!
