Here's my story (it’s 100% true):
My parents told me that TLK was the first movie I ever watched, even though it came out two years before I was born. I remember watching it when I was about two or three years old. I didn't understand a word of it, but I remember loving it anyway. I was awed by Mufasa and I thought Simba was really cute! I didn't find out about SP till I was six, and the first time I watched it I immediately fell in love with Kiara. I still didn't really understand much. I have no idea how I lived the next five years without watching either of the movies, but somehow I did. Then, when I turned eleven, something happened that changed my view of TLK forever...
It was the last day of school before winter break. I was in sixth grade. We were all in the auditorium because the choir was going to sing a few Christmas carols before everyone went home. There were lots of nice songs and many people sang along, but near the end, they announced that they would be singing a special surprise. It was the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". The moment they started singing, I was captivated. It seemed like something in me that had been locked had finally opened up. It was the most beautiful song I had ever heard. Everyone else obviously loved it too because they were screaming and cheering like mad. Some were actually standing up and singing. Soon everyone was standing up, including me. Being short, I wasn't able to see the choir anymore, but I could still hear their wonderful music. When it ended, everyone went wild.
On the way home the whole bus sang the song except me. I was too busy enjoying it in my head. I made a mental note to go home and find that song again on the internet. When I got home, I immediately Googled "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". While I was listening to it, I decided to listen to some other TLK songs. Again, they sounded amazing. How could I have survived so long without listening to such masterpieces?
After listening to all the songs, my thirst for TLK was still not quenched. I needed more. Eventually I grew obsessed with Simba and would Google him just to look at images of him. While doing this, I discovered "The Top Fifty Lion King Sites". I browsed through each site (including Moka's!) looking for pictures of Simba. Then I printed them. I still have most of them right now.
After a while, I discovered Melanie's site (
www.simbaholic.webs.com). While I was scrolling through it, I noticed some writing at the bottom. It said "Want your own free site? Try Freewebs.com." I clicked it and that's how my site was born. I would continuously go back to other TLK sites, especially Moka's, looking for TLK stuff. By then, I was a serious TLK-o-holic. I'd always thought Moka's site was abandoned till one day in May I saw the words "Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone!!" in the News section and a huge picture underneath it. I remember almost falling off my chair. This site wasn't abandoned! I’d always felt sad at how people just hopelessly abandoned such good sites, so when I found out that Moka’s was still in use, I was overjoyed. I quickly signed up to be a member.
Later I found out about TLK 1.5 so I begged my parents to buy it for me. It was hilarious! By then I also had the first two movies on DVD as well.
So yeah, you pretty much know the story from there.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, after winter break, people still liked the song, but by then their obsession had passed. Not so for me, but I kept that a secret, except from my two best friends and my family. I now own a huge stock of TLK-related merchandise! Long live the Lion King!!!
