The Member Dens

@Flip: Yes, but that's not how forums work. The staffroom has to remain private, member threads are public, otherwise you can except a crapstorm the minute someone starts discussing a ban in the staffroom.

Well, I'll be honest; When I first joined, I did spam the hell outta the place to get a Member Den lol. I guess you're right about that, but people may misinterpret that...
Now that we have so many members and so many that definitely deserve dens, it's just a hassle to keep up with.
This statement would lead me to believe that your argument WS, about the forum becoming spammy just because they want a member den, is not really the case. Clearly, one does not get a member den for post count alone, nor does it have to do with seniority. I think, assuming that the staff pays attention, that people who would spam just to try and get a den, wouldn't in the end. That's always how it's been, and it worked just fine that way. If this forum is so active and as big as it's being touted to be, you're always going to have those type of people, yet the system that has been in place ever since the member dens were introduced, has seemed to kept the forum in relative harmony as far as quality of posts go. I can safely say that simply removing a perk such as getting a member den, will, by no means, improve the quality of posts by all members, cause why strive to be a good member in the first place if there's nothing to show for it? That's just the way people are. They want something for their contributions. Is that right? Yes, and no.

I thought the webpage and email only was a part of the den thing too, or becoming staff, as far as I recall?

There can be some sort of arrangement where there is an obvious warning issued that spamming will result in immediate warnings and will not allow you to get a den... or something like that.

I just wanna say, The Den is already cluttered and disorganized as it is. With all the Member Den topics being put in there it's just going to make it more disorganized and make it even harder to find whut you're looking for. :/

@KM: They're still unimportant, though. Yes, the webpage and email were parts of it, but if people really want a reward, I suppose they could stay. I'm not the one to decide this, though. :/

@Ivory: That would be unfair if the user changed their ways.

Yeh, The Den is already disorganized enough... Back in 2009, there were subsections for movies, music, books, etc. *shrugs*

Vut...? It's asking the users to avoid doing annoying things, not asking them to bend their will and shift their personality. That's like saying rules are changing a user's way, so we have to ditch them :P

Good night, guys, I'm curious as to how things will turn out when I awake...

I think I even read somewhere in some kind of FAQ that spam and asking for a den is not the way to go about getting one.

And another quote from the member den thread.
"Thank you knarrly, of TLKPride, for the member den idea!"
It works just fine over on TLKPride, though as far as I can see, I am only semi active over there but it has never seemed like the dens there are a cause of spam.
Granted the spam may occur inside the dens themselves but then that is the point of them =D

@Kops
I did back a while ago suggest The Den be organised that way, I can't remember why but there is a reason it was denied XD

Well, like I said, since this has already been made official, there's nothing anyone can do about it, but I still wanted to voice my thoughts regardless. I still do hope that this change does bring all the improvements that the staff is claiming it will though. ^^

Yeah I accept that it will happen, but it is still rubbish, especially some of the reasoning.
I remember when signature limits were increased though when people were unhappy with the new smaller limit.
It just seems to me like another one of those moves that are once again suited to new members, and ignorant to the existing userbase.
