Well, I finally saw this movie today and I loved it so much. I literally have nothing bad to say about it, except that it felt a bit too long...but that might've been because I was hungry and had nothing but popcorn to eat all day lol. It's a beautiful and just as I suspected, I did cry. A lot.
except that it felt a bit too long
I had that feeling when I saw it too. I don't complain about it, because it was a great movie. Just took more time than I had planned on it taking. ;) I really liked the cast, and the voices were amazing. Surprised I haven't posted in this thread before; since I saw it opening night. Was it just me or do Jon Valjean represent "forgiveness and mercy," and Javert represent "law and punishment?"

You are correct, that is what those two characters represent. Valjean learns how to love and how to forgive, and Javert has unwavering faith in the law and bringing criminals to justice at any cost.

I usually struggle with long movies at the cinema and end up checking my watch, but Les Mis didn't actually seem to me as long as it actually was. I think it's because I just got too hooked up in the story.

Valjean's story really got me. Not that I've ever been a criminal or on the run, but I went through a dark few years in my life before finding the light that love and forgiveness brings. I did also end up feeling sorry for Javert in the end - He was forced to question everything he believed in, and could not face that.

It took a bit longer than I thought as well lol...I didn't find it boring though, not at all, I just kept wondering when it was going to end because I had no idea what the time was or anything...but the ending was epic and made me sob, so it was worth it. Anne Hathaway singing "I Dreamed a Dream" is easily one of the very best performances I've ever seen by an actress, but I was very impressed with everyone who was in this film. Perfect casting.

Considering they were filmed singing live (in most musical movies, the singing is done in a recording studio and dubbed on to movie) and a lot of the cast are not well known as being singers, I think they all did amazing.

Especially proud of little Isabelle Allen, who played young Cosette. She did our town proud! :) It's great that we have a movie star from Eastbourne and she's starring in the stage version as well now.

Yeah, I was very impressed with the fact that they were all singing live. Who knew Russell Crowe could carry a tune, right? x)

And that's so cool that young Cosette is from your town. She was amazing.

Hello fellow Les Mis fans!

So tonight I had a Victor Hugo night. First Dad and I watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and then Dad decided to put on the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert. We watched it all the way through, and oh my gosh, it's amazing! For those of us who are (im)patiently waiting for the movie, I'd definitely recommend seeing the concert! Absolutely amazing!

Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean was amazing! And also Javert was fanastic too! It featured Lea Salonga as Fantine, although you might know her more as the singing voices of both Jasmine and Mulan. Marius was played by Nick Jonas, who did a good job, but was nowhere near as awesome as Eddie Redmayne was in the movie. Ramin Karimloo as Enjorlas was EPIC! Gosh, I loved him!
Also, for those who enjoyed Samantha Barks as Eponine in the movie and want to see her perform the role again? Well, she was Eponine in the concert too!

Honestly, this concert was put together so well! The orchestra, the performers, the special effects. AMAZING! It's definitely a must watch.
They even did a special thing at the end where they brought out the original cast from 1985! And also had all four of the Jean Valjean's perform "Bring Him Home". Honestly, any Les Mis fan should watch this.

I'm also going to admit tonight brought out a lot of emotions in me. I've been struggling the past few days/weeks and it just made me feel a bit better. On another emotional note, I got kind of sad too because Dad and I began talking about my uncle who passed away 11 years ago. He LOVED Les Miserables and we know he would have loved the movie and the concert. Back then he was sorry he wouldn't be around to see the 2nd and 3rd part to Lord of the Rings...
Anyway, not to depress anyone. I just thought I'd mention it. It's amazing how musicals can affect you emotionally.

Point is; check out the concert, yo! xoxo

Awesome! Just been thinking that I'd really like to see this concert as well. Might check it out while I eagerly await the DVD :)

Also thought I should mention in case anyone doesn't know that the BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Awards) took place in London last night and Les Mis won in 4 categories: Make-up & Hair, Production design, Sound, and then Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress. Can't wait for the Oscars now!
