A long while endured, but at last they'd been born. Two of them, little damp things laying a few inches from her. She'd licked off the casings and nudged them over, inspecting them with narrowed eyes. Both females, to her pleasure. The first born was a big one, with a coat that wasn't quite Kirumi's tan but a little more red and a little darker. While the second one, smaller, was a shade of greyish brown that was lighter than Kaharabu's own fur. She stared down at them, wrinkling her muzzle. The small one cried out with a burbling mew, and Kaharabu made a face. She reached out a paw and nudged them close to her fur to nurse, which they did quickly and greedily. The lioness continued to stare down at them, still a little in shock that they were, in fact, her cubs. A thought that many months ago would have made her spit in fury and disgust. For a moment she scowled, then a lighter expression woke on her face, not quite a smile, but something as close as she could get at the moment. It vanished after a moment, and she lifted her head, a heavy sigh escaping her jaws.
