Appearance:
Kaharabu is noticeably larger than the average lioness. She's pretty tall, and has a sleek, lean build with powerful muscles. In pristine condition she is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Her short fur is a deep grey-brown color. Her underbelly is just a bit lighter by a few shades, as are her toes and the insides of her ears. Her back left foot has a paler grey-brown sock. This same color marks the lower half of her muzzle, while her underside color marks the top. The paler color is also her tail tip color. Her back left foot is a good bit darker than her main hue, and also colors her eye shading. Her pointed nose is a dull greyish pink and her eyes are a vibrant amber. She carries many noticeable scars.

Personality:
Harsh, aggressive, and not one to trifle with. Kaharabu's existence was determined by anger, from her mother and those she encountered later on. She is fierce and won't stand back to let things happen. She is stubborn and won't allow anyone to walk over her. She is pretty confident in her abilities, of course. Her size gives her an unusual advantage for a female, but she also is quick and relatively agile.

She is cunning and sometimes manipulative. Although she often prefers actions over words, she'll growl out words to others when she sees fit. She's rude to almost every other creature, and tends to brush off others or simply look on in disdain. Arrogance, certainly. Kaharabu likes to think she's more capable than some, and won't really care if she hurts another's feelings. The world she grew up in didn't care about her feelings, so why should she offer sympathy to others?

She is experienced and strong, and rarely shows weakness. She's very good at keeping her emotions in check. Kaharabu almost never, ever smiles. She doesn't like being happy, and she doesn't like others seeing her happy. For the most part she scowls and stares with her sharp amber gaze and ignores any pleasantness occurring nearby.

The one thing she's not accustomed to is the dealings of romance. Never has she been loved. Not by her mother, not by anyone she's met--up until meeting a male named Kirumi. However, that's where her cold facade has trouble staying--simply due to inexperience.

History:
Her mother was a lone lioness called Ubati. Carrying cubs had not been her choice, but it had been forced upon her. She was already half insane by the time they were born. Three cubs. Only one was living, but she named them all anyway. The stillborns were probably her fault. She had not taken care of herself while pregnant. And being on her own, there was no one to take care of her. Kaharabu was the only survivor of the litter. She looked like she wanted to survive. Larger than her two dead littermates, and with a fierce attitude from the start.

Ubati was not mean at heart, but her mind was broken. A mixture of depression, insanity, and overwhelming pain had reduced her to a sick mess. Her parental skills were abysmal, but she did her best. She was often harsh and cruel, and tended to speak as though talking to someone else. Ubati had sort of insane explosions where she couldn't think clearly, and these would often result in her injuring her cub - minor marks, but they did more damage to Kaharabu's mental wellbeing.

She began to loose the love she had for her mother. It faltered and crumbled each time Ubati swiped at her or scolded her in angry tones. Even when her mother was "normal" she still seemed to show little signs of love for her baby. So Kaharabu turned cold. And as they were on their own, she had no cub friends to play with. No other adults to love her. Nothing but the sharp fury of her crazed mother.

They came across the occasional rogue, and this was how Kaharabu learned to fight. She was growing to be a powerful lioness. Despite her mother's seeming hatred for her, the older lioness did give most of the food they caught to her daughter. That kept Kaha from outright leaving, for she knew that her mother did care to some small degree. So she was kept strong and fit. Her mother taught her the skills she knew, and Kaharabu learned how to defend herself. She took part in fights whenever they met with a rogue who wanted to do harm. As an adolescent, she was nearly larger than her mother, and strength and stealth became a major advantage.

Even with the meager kinship bond, she decided to leave. Ubati was still harsh and unkind, and Kaharabu was fed up. She was strong enough to leave, even though she wasn't quite an adult. So she departed with haste and without a goodbye.

During her time on her own, she grew and strengthened. Fighting other rogues whenever she had to for defense. Wandering the land with no one to restrain her. Enjoying herself, at last. For the next few years she roamed, satisfied and confident, with nothing keeping her from a path of endless movement.

She eventually happened upon a pride of females, excepting one young male named Kirumi, who was the lead lioness's son. Kaharabu payed no mind to it and turned her paws to keep passing by, but the male came to her offering food. He had endless cheer, and she quickly found him to be an absolute pain. However, the prospect of good meals and perhaps a brief rest was just enough for her to stay--for a little bit. During that time, Kirumi pestered her, attempting to work out a smile or something other than dull stoic anger.

For the most part she resented the pride of females, and they didn't respond well back to her either. Arguments were common, and Kaharabu continued to ask herself why she didn't just walk off. Truth was, she was starting to feel attached to the male who acted so silly and friendly around her. Maybe it was so different from what she'd seen her whole life. But it was a nice change.

However she didn't jump right into being friendly back. She was stubborn and still preferred to sit on her own, glaring into space. For one, she still never smiled unless forced. But she was more comfortable around Kirumi. And eventually he asked her to be his mate. She agreed. Now, she wouldn't stay in the pride, so this left a bit of a predicament. Kirumi was the only male, and his affections went towards a rogue. But, after a short time another male came and sent Kirumi out wounded. Kaharabu found him and through her fierceness denied Kirumi's words that he would die, and healed him up.

Then they went on their way to lands unknown, just as Kaharabu liked. She was quite content--though it never showed--that they were on the move, and away from others. They met with Kaharabu's mother, even. Unfortunately, they stumbled upon a cub, abandoned and alone. Kirumi forced Kaharabu to name him--Mwiba. They left quickly, upon Kaharabu's hissing anger, but soon realized the cub was following. Reluctantly Kaharabu didn't chase him off, and later on the cub walked side by side with them. Or mostly Kirumi, who adored him. Kaharabu hated the idea of being a mother and kept away as best she could.

The three of them discovered a pride after a short while. Even more surprising was that it was Kirumi's father who led the pride--creating a whole new angst. Kaharabu kept to the outskirts, waiting to leave. However, the plus side was that Mwiba made a friend and was asked to stay. Of course Kaharabu accepted, and Kirumi did as well. They departed after that.

Now they still wander. And lately the lioness had been doing plenty of thinking. Especially on the thought having cubs. She was annoyed at changing her mind about the topic she'd been so forcefully negative on, but she almost, almost wanted to have cubs. Partly because Kirumi was so into that idea. After many weeks of fighting with herself and grumbling, she told him her decision. Soon after that, they mated. Kaharabu began to show signs of pregnancy. As usual, she had numerous mood swings and a rapid increase in appetite. Her freedom grew limited, to her frustration. She had regrets, yes. But she'd made her decision, and would stick with it--she had to.

Time passes, and the birth was imminent. Early in the morning one day, Kaharabu felt the worst pain yet. She sent Kirumi away and huddled in the back of their den as each ripple makes her hiss. In time, though, two little bundles lay on the ground next to her. Both females. The bigger one, with reddish tan fur, was a fighter from the start. The smaller grey-brown one seemed chill with anything. Kaharabu brought them to nurse, and after a while called her mate in. She suggested both names: Hodari for the larger cub, and Kucha for the smaller.

As any youngsters, the cubs grow swiftly, from newborns into bouncing balls of energy. Kucha was an eager, goofy child with little worries. Hodari was more stoic, but had a passion for wrestling. Both bonded with their father quite well, but Kaharabu often had trouble interacting. Still, there was no hatred between anyone, and the family was well. Once the cubs could manage walking long distances, Kirumi brought up the idea of visiting his mother, if just to tell her she had grandchildren. Kaharabu reluctantly agree, and they set out for a long journey.
