Brainstorming

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!

But, even with an algorithmic list, there's still a gray area.

We might not be able to say F***. But what about fuk, or fuq? Or WTF? Frak? Frick? Eff you? What about substituting it with "foxtrot uniform charlie kilo?"

It all goes back to what I said earlier. It's just a word, and anything can be used in place of it while still carrying the same meaning.

So maybe the censoring option would work better?

Yes, although I'm a bit confused about that. Isn't there already a language filter in place?

Is there? :/ isn't it only for like language translation or something? I don't know. xD

Edit: Yes, there is already a censoring option for swearing, so maybe we should make it a little better to accommodate different ppl? idk how but we could, but we should figure out something. xD

I think if you self-censor, then it's fine. Kids won't know what F--- is.

I think it's a good idea to hold the line against hard swearing. It doesn't really do any good having it, and can do a lot of damage atmosphere wise. So my opinion is hard swear words should be prohibited and advise members to use lesser ones sparingly. The hard words are generally the ones that have explicit sexual meanings, which is another reason to keep them out of the conversations on a all age-group forum.

Also, if you ban use of certain words you can also state that includes disguised versions of the word.

Btw, I was curious if there was a specific word to describe a 'disguised word', a practice that has become common on the internet to get around filters. I couldn't find any in a short search. So... being a bit of a word-geek I will try to make up my own.

Camocuss ?

Pretty lame I must say myself.

Meh then you might as well just not allow it at all, tbh I can live without being able to swear on this forum lol, it's really being made out to be a bigger deal than it is (as is the case on here almost every time).
Nah let's not beat around the bush with silly ifs and maybes, either allow it or do not.
I personally think it should be allowed, obviously there is mixed opinions on it but whatever happens, you can't please everyone so tbh might as well just leave it.
The rules don't need changing, it's the attitude of the staff toward the rules that do (inb4 excuses, you know if this applies to you or not and it's not all of you).

God, Fip to the rescue. Why are people fighting so hard to be able to swear? Nobody responded my earlier post: can we seriously not communicate or make a joke without using crude language? There's a time and place for everything. If you guys heard things my friends and I say to each other in the dorm you would probably throw up. But this is a public forum for The Lion King, and there's just no need to drop bad language in my opinion.

You are correct. But, at some point, offensive language is inevitably going to be used. What happens then? That is what this discussion is about.

...Censor it and tell them not to do it again? Does it need to be more complicated than that?
