Exactly what type of training did Zira make Kovu go through?

Well, it gave me the impression that the whole thing wasn't very well-planned. That, or Zira probably planned to have Kovu kill Simba in his sleep. It's not like there are many options. Kovu might have a pretty good chance it it wasn't a one-on-one match though.

Well, I think the main failing of Zira's plot was she never really anticipated what Kovu would be subjected to in the Pride Lands. Zira never really considered that they would introduce him to the kinds of activities the perform, as they never did those things themselves. Kovu had to think for himself, which is exactly the opposite of what brainwashing requires. It also doesn't help that he had to play opposite of the Princess, who seemed to have a desire for seeing him act the way she did. He was unprepared for things like fun, and stargazing and what not. He was physically prepared, but not fully controllable.

Well, I believe she didn't consider Kiara while training him, hence why she couldn't come up with a better plan than an ambush when she heard that Kovu had betrayed her. Kovu had probably never fallen in love so it didn't cross her mind...?

Kovu has no chance agaisnt Simba and his whole pride. "The closer we get to the daughter, the closer we get to Simba"
I think she trained him to make his way into the heart of the pride and get Simba alone "Well done Kovu! Just like we always planned" and kill him off. Then Zira and the others will kill Nala and Kiara, possibly others too. I think she must have taught him fighting and being evil like her, but maybe more for defence than actual killing.

I think that Kovu went through very tough physical and mental training because, like stated before, it takes a lot of power to overthrow a king. I also agree that winning kiara's heart was part of the plan all along because there was actually a deleted scene that involved Nuka and Vitani telling Zira about Kiara's birth which meant that they had originally planned that Kovu rule as king with Kiara and then take down Simba. One thing that Zira forgot to train Kovu on was being normal which we see later being fixed in the movie.

I don't know much for Kovu's training but he surely wasn't a strong lion. If you remember in the ambush scene he was knocked out by Vitani's leg!

Actually, Vitani kicked him in the face (or the throat, been a while since I saw the movie) and Kovu falls backwards, hitting his head on a rock. Vitani`s kick doesn`t knock him out, the rock does.
There`s a significant difference between being kicked in the face and banging your head against a rock.

Besides, we never actually get to see Kovu do any fighting, so we have no idea of determining his physical strength or stamina.

Yes, I agree but yet he doesn't seem to be physically strong but he could be.
