Mufasa was a little stunned when a small, pale-furred cub appeared before, looking extremely young considering the presence of infant spots still on his body. His size suggested an older cub, however, leaving Mufasa a little confused. The cub looked rather frightened, with his stance low and ear laid low, which Mufasa did not find surprising. Most strangers could be slightly put off by his large, powerful presence.
Before he could do anything in regards to communicating with the cub, he noticed Simba stepping towards the cub, obviously curious. "No, Simba," he said firmly, holding a paw out to stop his son from approaching. The cub did not look dangerous, but Mufasa's trust had been shaken by Scar's brutal betrayal, and he planned on keeping his guard up until he was sure the cub meant no harm...or was not part of some kind of ambush. "Just stay back a moment," he said, still addressing Simba, giving his son a firm look to reinforce the message to the adventurous, and often rebellious cub, that this not a request that should be argued.
Turning his attention back to the cub, Mufasa sat down, trying to keep his body language passive to show the cub that he meant no harm...as long as he was not trying to fool them in any way. "Who are you, young one?" he asked. "Where is your family?" Mufasa seriously doubted that such a young cub was able to survive out here all on his own, and surmised that he must have family somewhere nearby. Although Mufasa kept his voice neutral, this presented a problem, as that meant that he had wandered onto another lion's land, meaning he would most like have to move on, and find some other place to rest. His body reminded him of his need to stop and recover as he coughed a couple of times, managing to suppress it before it became a wracking fit that he knew would worry Sarabi and Sarafina to no end.
