Sorting out the dead, unused topics is pointless. I've been saying this for years now. Bulletin boards have forums for a reason: to sort topics into their respectable category. The topics in these forums are sorted by last post time descending for a reason and these forums have pages for a reason. The old, dead topics go to the back of the forum where no one visits and the new, active topics stay near the top. This is how nearly every big forum operates. Moving old topics into an archive makes it even harder to find duplicate topics and especially difficult for people that want to find a specific thread. Plus, I've seen some old topics that have been bumped back into activity and the discussions have been quite...pardon my vocabulary...fruitful.

I just need this cleared up, because Amanda herself before that topic was made, didn't post in the topic since 2009, but some of the people asking questions were still asking on July 3rd. So wouldn't it of not counted as a duplicate, considering the thread owner dumped it nearly a year ago?

No, because it wasn't technically dead. And since she got back on it when asked to, I still don't see the problem. Everything is fine now.

No, because any thread that has not been posted in in 30 days has to be locked lol. I guess I was lucky that people kept posting in my topic long after I "abandoned" it.

I still don't think that would be fair if there was a person who was wanting the topic, and saw that you haven't posted in it for a long time. Just because your askers kept it active, shouldn't make it any less dead, or else there could be plenty of topics like that where the owner is not replying, and the askers are keeping the thread active.

Well that's kind of their fault lol. It gets obvious after a while that a thread has been abandoned and if they really want the topic to themselves they shouldn't be posting anything at all.

The issues can be handled individually - as I handled this one and resolved it without a single hitch. PM'ing the member in charge of the thread is all that's necessary.

That still wouldn't be fair for the people that want it, and they won't give it away, even though they haven't posted in it for a year. Also, to the people owning like 10 character threads, you think their just going to give up one like that? There's a reason they have like 10 of them. I think the idea for people to be allowed like 2-3 would be good too.

The members shouldn't have to be doing everything manually, anyways. I thought that was what mods were for, their supposed to be doing their job to make it an enjoyable experiance for everyone. This could possibly make an unenjoyable experiance for some.

As Moka said, rules pertaining to individual forums make things more difficult and more complicated.

I'm gonna take that a step further and say that it makes things less enjoyable for everyone.

Not really. Rules for different forums would make the forum a lot less troublesome, and perhaps keep people from having to make topics like this, because they feel it's unfair. This is like the only ever forum that tries to use one set of rules for everything, when it doesn't really work well like that, because each section is on this site, and needs to be cared for all the same.

Let's face it, this forum is a tiny bit unorganized, and there are a lot of troublemakers. Sometimes the rules aren't clear enough, because in some sections you guys will be like "oh that's okay", and some you'll be like, THAT ISN'T ALLOWED. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's true. You can't run a whole forum off of one set of rules.

The idea of it wasn't bad, but the way it was pulled off, I personally feel didn't work.

WS, if you'd like to bring up specific examples of where we've gone wrong it would help because we could address them. Otherwise you're sort of getting off topic.
