it was absolutely incredible. i play flute since a young age and had a lot of music from hans zimmer, the lion king score, madagascar and pirates of the carribean i can play from memory. lebo and hans are 2 people I know all their music from, but never know what they looked like, what their background stories were etc. it was so awesome to see these musical legends perform together. if you want to see their new version of the lion king score, youtube: type in rotterdam lebo m hans zimmer lion king
then enjoy an epic performance :)

I went to a Hans concert yesterday with my dad to celebrate Father's Day. What an experience!! Wow! I was blown away by the entire thing. It really gave me a newfound respect for him. The show was much more personal than I expected, he shared anecdotes throughout and he was so humble and funny. It really did feel more like a band was playing than a big orchestra and choir.

I was surprised by how enchanted I was. The tickets were a bit of an impulse purchase because I had wanted to hear a composer perform live for years, and although Hans is not my favourite, I knew it was an opportunity that I should take. Musically, The Lion King remains to be the only score of his that I've ever found truly compelling and thoroughly enjoyable. His scores tend to be very repetitive, especially the ones he produces for action movies. And yet the entire set-list sounded brilliant and astoundingly fresh. He put a new spin on his tracks for the tour, and I honestly think he's improved a lot of his work by changing the sound for the live experience. The tour version of Gotham's Reckoning is so powerful, it's almost mind-blowing. And the music wasn't the only thing to enjoy -- whoever does the lighting for this tour deserves an award, it's a performance in itself and adds so much to the experience. Leaves you with goosebumps!

And as expected, it was incredible to see and hear Lebo M live, especially those original opening vocals for CoL... it's amazing to hear it during the opening of the musical but it's even better to hear it from Lebo himself. The cherry on the cake was that his daughter Refi came out and performed with him! Amazing talent! They sang Lea Halalela together and then the choir joined in to sing King of Pride Rock and the Circle of Life reprise. Ultra moving. Hans and Lebo have a very touching relationship, he spoke so highly of him and it was so sweet.

I highly recommend buying tickets if he's performing at a venue near you. Unforgettable experience, you'll have a fantastic night.

That was a general statement to the whole of MLK/anyone who's reading lol. It wasn't aimed at you. I would've mentioned you if it was, like I'm doing in this post.
