UncoordinatedPisces wrote:^ I agree, not all of those who voted out are racist. My reasons for voting leave, if I had done, were nought to with immigration. However, unfortunately, there was an undeniable trend between Leave voters and xenophobia. Still, its unfair to demonise those who have genuine concerns over immigration, even if some of those concerns are misinformed.

The pro Brexit MPs have many other social and economic arguments-but they decided to use immigration as they knew that a very quick shock tactic was needed to persuade people to change the status qou, because people are generally weary of doing that.

Definitely not, no. But I have a feeling the immigration fearmongering did prevail in the end. Then again, both sides were pretty much fearmongering from what I saw, so that's not an entirely fair point to make either.

This. I voted remain and voted for what I want and believe in. Frankly I could not care less what others voted or if they didn't vote at all. BUT I do like talking about these things.

I must say this is the most civil and peaceful discussion on politics I've ever seen on MLK :)

Yeah I definitely don't want to make this a toxic discussion, I'm just really interested in what others have to say really. It's a really interesting turn of events for Britain and the EU even if I personally don't support the decision.

Okay, I did not expect "Leave" to win at all. I'm literally stunned right now and wondering what'll happen. :?

As someone with hopes of pursuing a career related to languages and travelling (maybe similar to you?), I can relate to that, honestly Right now, I'm just expecting the "domino effect" to begin and things to get much harder, if so...the tension is real. :/

Honestly... I'm personally not gonna be happy if the EU disintegrates now because I had plans of travelling (and maybe living abroad) a lot long-term after I saved up enough money and it'll become so much more difficult if there's an EU crisis. I'm trying not to think about it but... :headache:

THIS. I personally wished to pursue careers that could require travelling, but, right now? I'm not so sure anymore. I feel like everything will be very complicated.

I was also looking forward to going to London later this year or next year, but this whole thing has got me a bit uneasy, if I must be honest. It's obvious that they aren't leaving the EU right now, but stuff. It's always complicated. :/

I wouldn't worry about going to London in the next couple years as it will take a few years for the UK to actually leave. In fact you should probably do it as soon as you can while you still can really, before free movement is compromised.

Feeling a bit of the down right now as this is a bit scary news on a personal level.

I'm not a fan of the EU, but its free movement rights are something a lot of us cherished as it was actually fuelling our dreams. I'll be really sad if easy travel is entirely gone, even if our nations are better off... :disappointed2:
