This is obviously the more fun option.

Oh who am I kidding. I'm just lonely as f@#k.

I made sure I was a) Financially secure and had a secure job as was my partner b) My mental health had settled and c) We could definitely afford one and finally that we were both 100% ready. It's a big decision and alot of people sadly rush into it these days.

You seem to leave out the most important thing.

That the kid will be happy.

Otherwise, you are just as selfish as all the other dumb selfish parents out there.

Wait... what?? What's the reasoning behind not being able to be loving towards them?? That's just neglectful, who thought of it?? :?

Probably to do with discouraging pedophiles from adopting children.

But that's just my cynical side being cynical. And my socially-insensitive side being unaware as to why pedophilia is somehow immoral, because I genuinely don't see how it is.

^ Yeah that's very over-the-top, knew it was difficult to adopt but didn't know it was that ridiculous the heck. :/

Shadowfax wrote:^ Apparently so. A regular customer at my workplace was going through the process early last year and had to pull out because she just couldn't bare having a child if she couldn't treat them like her own. It's just ridiculous. But then, alot of rules and regulations are over here.

How are you supposed to encourage adoption with a system like that that feels like it segregates the child from its family simply because they're not biologically related? What the hell. I really hope I'm misunderstanding here because that's the most baffling thing I've read in a while.

But hey, one GREAT thing about UK law is that they don't force their citizens to choose between Gulag and death, right?

^ Really? That's crazy! I can understand having those rules for fostering children, but I thought adoption gave you the same legal rights as if they were your biological children?

My oldest friend is adopted, but you wouldn't know it. His parents have always treated him the same as his older siblings who are their biological children.

While I agree that some people shouldn't be parents (those who abuse / neglect their kids) I think a licence to have kids would be going a bit far. Reproduction is a basic human right.

^ In some sense it is. I don't realistically see something like restricting who can have children being implemented in a way that isn't morally dubious. But so many children suffer today because too many people are just not good parents. I just think some people just should not have the right to have kids.

Si - I'm pretty sure it was adoption rather than fostering. It is ridiculous on both fronts really.

Arby - of course she'll be happy.....

Mom is telling me to go to the doctor today and I'm here telling her that neither Dad or I will have an opportunity to go until Monday at the earliest. Also the pain is not as bad as two days ago. Maybe it'll heal on its own...

I don't know. I feel more strongly towards the right for children to grow up in a nurturing environment than the right for anyone to reproduce, but that's just me.

IMO all pedophiles are definitely mentally ill, but there's definitely a dinstinction between harmless pedophiles and 'practicing' pedophiles. The former should be treated instead of instantly ostracised, the latter should be jailed as any rapist and/or child abuser should.

Well, I guess it's good to know that I'm one of the most selfish people on this planet. Even though I would make sure that I was ready before having one and would make sure it lives in a good family environment.
