Ninaroja wrote:Are you applying for jobs one at a time? Keep at it  it is difficult - I've been there. I saw about thirty rejections/ignorals before I got my first paid job, and I know people who've seen more. But you'll get it :)

What I did was apply for literally everything I could, particularly when I dropped out of University first time round - everything from temporary to seasonal to full time and part time and everything in between. How about dropping Résumés into places here and there? Probably not so good for graduate jobs but it could get you something to tide you over until something else presents itself :)

Don't give up Shug :)

Well, the thing is, I've had two paid jobs before and both ended in disaster because I did basically that. I put in applications just about anywhere and everywhere (my resume currently says basically "I finished uni" and nothing else, so it's not really going to help much). The problem is, I'm not suited for 90% of jobs that exist in this area. I can't do anything that is in a fast paced environment or anything that involves having to constantly talk to other people; I worked answering telephones for a couple of months and in a fast food joint for 3 DAYS, and in both cases I became far too stressed out to enjoy anything about my life. I cannot and will not do any of those sorts of jobs ever again because I know I'll just end up having to quit and that's just going to make me look bad. I'm not cut out for that kind of thing. I'd have applied for more than one thing at a time now if there was more than one opening that was something I could do.

The one job I applied to was for a part time temp position at the local library. Not only was it the only job available that seems fitting to me, but I know that I'm not ready to take on full time. I need a lot of recharging time after being out in public (it seriously kills me) and I need to get acclimated to a certain job before trying to take on more hours; I know better than to bite off more than I can chew. The position in question looked very promising, considering library work is the ideal setting for me, and they wanted people on evenings (5-9) and Saturdays. The interview went really well too, and it's true that I still may get it (I'm supposed to get an email by the end of the month either way). The job is meant to start as part time and temporary, but the director told me that at the end of that period of time she wants to try to keep a few people on permanent. She seemed very impressed that I have experience with computers and tablets/phones and helping people print things, and she liked that I graduated from the same uni she did. The only requirements for the position were that a person be at least 16 and know how to use computers; so I stand a good chance of getting a position still, maybe, considering everything.

If I don't get it, though... well I live in a small town. There's nothing else quiet or semi-peaceful to do for work and I can't drive, so I can't go work in another town or do some other kind of job here. So I don't have a lot of things available that I'm actually capable of, which is why I haven't applied to anything else.

That said, I'm not giving up, and am working on something that should be able to help me get things going and is something I'd be able to continue should the library get back in contact with me. I'm currently compiling a list of topics I could write about on a blog (I usually stop using my blogs because I'll get up and not know what to talk about that day, so in order to combat that, I'm going to get myself a year's worth of topics in advance so that each day I just have to look at the topic and write a couple thousand words). Once I've figured that out, I'm going to look very thoroughly into using a blog to advertise for others, like Amazon; which is basically like monetizing YouTube videos. People clicking the ads would provide me with a small cut of the profit; I don't expect this to be highly successful, but hopefully it will bring in some money, slow though it may be, and give me some way to work towards the things I need to while I try to locate and get hired for some kind of job I can actually do. Additionally, the blog itself would be something else I could put on a resume, which would make me look better in the future.

I understand - I'd forgotten you'd worked those places before. I have no desire to work in retail/hospitality other than to see me through Uni at this point - they do suck majorly.

Like you said though the library should get back to you before the end of the month, and from the sounds of things your interview went well. Fingers crossed for that!

And that blog sounds cool - I still haven't done much work on mine besides making the account. Maybe someday...

I know how that feels. Some things can really get to us and, sometimes, even "blind" us. Humans can be so complicated. :worriedbeshte: Glad you're feeling better, though! :zukazama: :hug2:

Genius me bought a ticket that doesn't include baggage. Good news is that the fees are less than what I thought they'd be so that's good.

It may be time to get some food and go back to watching these Inside the Walking Dead episodes. I'm exhausted. I can always come up with more topics later.

I would love to have popcorn or tater chips right now... hell even pizza rolls would be nice atm even though they're so unhealthy.

---

Okay then, it's 11pm... once I've eaten and digested, I'll take one of those sleeping pills and lay down. If it's gonna be like it was before, I'll need to do something on my phone for about an hour, then I should be able to sleep... so maybe around 1? Sounds like a plan.
