I'm trying to write but all I can think about is food and that is 100% because I am starving and have been waiting for dinner to be done since it was 4:00... It's now 6:00.

For some reason, when people talk to me about life and I tell it like it is, they seem to think I'm depressed. They seem to think I'm putting myself down and wallowing in despair. People don't seem to get that life has always sucked in those ways for me and that I'm used to it. They don't seem to get that the only thing that has ever made me depressed is how the people I cared about at different points treated me.

People seem to think that because money's so tight it makes me sad. They seem to think that because hard work gets my family nowhere fast, it makes me sad. They seem to think our mouse infestation makes me sad. It doesn't. None of those bad things make me sad and despite everything, I am actually depression free for the first time in years. No, I'm not depressed.

I'm angry.

I'm angry that this kind of thing happens to good people and that a lot of people seem to think it's okay. I'm angry that not being like everyone else and not having money deprives my family from medical care, among other things. I'm angry that mice exist. I'm very, very angry, but I am not sad or depressed.

I am determined. I am frustrated. I intend to do my damnedest to prove to people that people like me can and will survive despite the odds. It's stupid that I'm partially disabled yet need to work in order for my family to stay afloat but I want to live, dammit. I'm not going to roll over and die. I want life to get better... and there's not much I can do if the system doesn't change, but that doesn't make me sad or depressed, nor does it mean I'm not going to even try.

Yes my anxiety makes things hard... but that's life. Yes I have mental issues that could possibly be improved with therapy or medications... but with life like it is, I can't get therapy or medications, and I'm fine with that. I am strong. I am tough. I can deal with my troubles when I have to, even though I am sometimes afraid.

Yes, things are very rough for me and show no signs of getting better... but that's life, and I'm a survivor. My anger and frustration are kindling the fire of determination in my soul, and that's why I never give up no matter how bad things get. And yes, I have been depressed in the past, especially in the wake of terminated relationships (platonic or romantic), but that passes... and while I do still have sad days, and do still have scars, that does not mean I'm being a downer or feeling hopeless when I tell you what happens to people like me. It's just life.
