Episode 6: The Kupatana Celebration

Songs are good! Kupatana song is beautiful! And jackals are great villains! Different personality from hyenas. Makes me wonder, if they'll show up again or not? It's a little pity that both Nala and Kiara showed up but didn't talk. And the crisis ended too soon. Still, a fantastic episode!

I think it's safe to assume that they will.

True, but at least visual cameos let you know that said characters have not been forgotten about.

Indeed. After all, Kupatana is an important ceremony, as the show said. And every royal member should show up and be one part of it. It's truly nice to see all of them together.

I stitched some parts of Kupatana together to make a more complete song. I also did a bit of mixing and mastering to make it sound a little cleaner.

I've just gotta start out by saying right up front that I loved this episode!! it may be my #1 favorite thus far.

I absolutely love the jackals. jackals are very important animals to me, as I'm very fond of the way they're portrayed in ancient Egyptian religion and I study those deities actively. for that reason, I was a little disappointed to know that they'd be villains in TLK, but the fact that there are jackal characters at all is enough to make me thrilled. plus, it can't be denied that real jackals can be rather pesky critters - after all, one of the possible reasons they were venerated as they were in ancient Egypt is because they were likely seen digging up and eating from shallow graves, and thus there was a need to placate them!

the designs of the jackal characters are wonderful. Dogo is adorable, and I love Goigoi's big stylized nose and protruding teeth and Rairai's elegant eyelashes. the dynamic between Rairai and Goigoi is pretty cute and funny. Rairai is such a great villain. she honestly reminds me a bit of the main villain from the Minions movie. LOL. definitely some of my top favorite characters from the show now (though no one can compete with Janja).

it was neat how the jackals and the hyenas are so different in personality and in the way they go about things. they're both forces of chaos with no respect for maintaining balance, but this doesn't feel repetitive.
I kind of wish there could have been a scene in which Dogo or one of the other pups actually becomes enthralled with the Kupatana celebration and realizes that perhaps what Rairai and Goigoi are doing is wrong. I know the Jasiri episode sent the "not all hyenas are the same" message, and that in turn pretty much serves to send the "not all jackals are the same" message - it would get too repetitive if, with every new villain species, we were reminded that yes, some of them are good and not evil. but I can't help but wish for a good jackal!!

the Kupatana celebration itself was lovely. I like how caring and understanding Simba was when he realized the jackal situation was essentially Kion's fault. Kion and the Guard definitely did a kind thing by allowing the jackals into the Pridelands and I'm glad Simba acknowledged that. I do wish it had been emphasized a little more that even though Kion's kindness was taken advantage of this time, that still doesn't mean it's a bad thing to extend compassion to strangers again in the future.

last, but not least: Jackal Style is the best song thus far (~:

I have to say this is one of my favorite episodes by far. I can finally comment now that my DVR decided not to be stupid and recorded the whole episode and not just one actual minute ;). I actually really enjoyed the Jackal family from ReiRei, Dogo, and GoiGoi. I have to say that is a lot of jackal pups! I read they can birth up to nine pups so it's not impossible! :dreadeddoughnuts: I thought it was interesting to watch the dynamic between Simba and Kion and that Simba admitted that the Circle of Life continued into the Outlands and includes jackals. I like that Kion admits to his mistake, but Simba sides with his son. I liked seeing Nala there, although I wish she had more of a speaking role in the show. It was nice to see the royal family altogether. Also, I was very happy to see good old Zazu :kiongrin2: I love the song "Jackal Style" and it has to be up there with "Sisi Ni Sawa" and "I Go My Own Way" as my three favorite songs. I do not think there is any bad lessons being taught here because what the jackals are shown doing is wrong. They are shown stealing from other animals and the the show states that this is wrong and you cannot just benefit from others hard work. I think it sends a message that sometimes you can't make friends with everyone and to be careful who to trust, which kids need to learn to. I love the Lion Guard!

I think it's so funny how ReiRei just dominates her mate :glee2: She kicks him like three times and he says "Whatever you say, dear" My husband was watching and found that so hysterical and said "Yep, he knows the right way to be married" 8-). I do wish Dogo would have spoken out about what his family was doing, but that can be rough to go against your family. He probably doesn't understand the full implications of what his family does. Anyway, I love the Kuptana Celebration and the flowers were just so beautiful and the music was lovely.

Yeah this episode was certainly a good one. Love Kupatana, kinda the TLK version of Christmas, was very sweet. Those are some adorable jackals, and Jackal Style is a great song.
