Southern hospitality isn't just a made up phrase, if you are friendly people will be friendly back. The cost of living is really low. You can afford a decent house with a non-fancy job. In spite of all the guns we have unless you are in a bad neighborhood you will probably never see them.

We also have the best burgers and steakhouses!

I spent a year in San Antonio. Texas was one of the worst places I've ever lived. Southern hospitality is a bogus notion, though the rest of what you said is somewhat true.

If you drive around with the words "I don't believe in Jesus; gay love rules," painted onto your car, you're probably going to get shot. Yeppity yep yep. That's not exactly what I'd call hospitality right there.

Your south sure sounds different from mine. Three jobs in the household and we can't afford our house, which is falling apart. If it weren't for the good Samaritans we'd go without food some weeks too. If the cost of living is low here too, I'd really hate to see a place where it's high.

I will agree the people tend to be friendly, unless of course they find out something "unsavory" about you. Guns aren't seen too often here either, but sometimes people are carrying them openly in Walmart and that's terrifying when it happens. Especially since people in these parts have been shot for silly things like "looking gay" or "looking Muslim."

I wouldn't know about the burgers and steakhouses, but people do praise Texas for those a lot.
