as a kid I was shoking by the death of mufasa but I liked the movie and it was not a problem for me to see. I think it is part of life and a good lesson for the children. and if parents are watching together with them they can explain to the children about what happened.

Yea, it's better than the hamlet I had to watch in English(so many inaccuracies!!). It's like a way of making Shakespeare understandable to everyone. And besides, people/animals all die someday so people have to learn that sometime.

I never minded it as a toddler. And neither does my 5-year-old cousin, but for some, it could be offensive, and that's their opinion^^

Naw, didn't shock or disturb me...Disney are forever killing off family members, like in Bambi, Fox and the Hound or TLK where you actually witness the event, OR Lilo and Stitch, Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella, where you know a parent is dead, but you don't see it or know anything about it.

But, if you were to get into the mind set of Simba and actually try and imagin all the emotions, sights and sounds of Mufasa's death, then yes...it's horrible!! Something no child should have to go through.

Also, visually it's quite horrific, you actually see him fall to his doom (Though you don't see impact OR him being trampled) and you hear Scar whisper "Long Live the King" which is very sinister in itself!

Though, I have to say, Bambi and Fox and the Hound is worse, because it's so well done...when you hear the gunshot, you KNOW what's happened, even if they don't show you. Lilo and Stitch is aweful because I know someone who's parents were killed in a car accident in bad weather, so that hit home very hard and I'm sure I'm not alone.

BUT...because it's a cartoon (No matter how awesomely brilliant it is) it's never going to be that aweful, because we all know they're just lines on paper. It's if you start picturing it in real life, happening to one of your family members, that's when it starts getting bad.

So, after that epic post...I guess I'm 50/50
In short, it's a cartoon - so it's not real, but if it were to happen in real life...then it'd be awful.

I agree with Annie. In my opinion, a gunshot is a lot nastier than falling to your death :|

At least the gunshot is quick.

I think that Disney has a few things that they recycle over and over(Death of family member, romance sub-plot). I don't think any of the deaths are very shocking; but I can see how people, especially young kids could find it shocking at first.

Just to add on, but the movie is classified as U. Which according to the little certificate it's suitable for all ages and there is nothing unsuitable for children.

well, certain sceene can maybe not subtituble for all ages, like the fight of Simba vs Scar, or Mufasa's Death, but still, the movie keep a balance between good and evil, that's what make this movie a hit, I guess
