Love at First Sight: Melody & Derek (kitkat39 & NKL!)

"Yeah, it is amazing," I said, unconsciously grabbing her hand. I quickly realized what I was doing, and made up an excuse for it. "Uh, come on. Let's continue the tour!" I pulled her along and into the kingdom itself. "You recognize this place, don't you?" I asked as we passed King Triton's throne room.

I looked around the throne room, remembering every detail from the last time I was here. The last thing I looked was Grandfather's trident, and I gasped, remembering how I had been tricked to steal it from under his nose for Ursula's sister. I took a deep breath and replied to Derek's question, "Yes, I do remember this place, it's just....it's been quite a while since I've been here last time." I noticed that he grabbed my hand without knowing it, and I liked it. The heat of his hand sent goose bumps throughout my body, and I did my best not to shiver from it.

"Yeah. That can happen at times," I respond. I notice her slightly shiver, and ask, "Are you cold? It must be from your transformation as a mermaid. Don't worry. It's not too cold here. If you want, though, I could get you a blanket," I offer.

"I'm ok, but maybe I could use a blanket for a little bit until Grandfather comes," I said. Then I heard a voice in the hallway, one that sounded so familiar I smiled. Then he came through the doorway, talking to Sebastian, a old friend of my mom's. Sebastian saw me first and got the king's attention, who turned his head and saw me. He smiled at me and said, "Melody, it's good to see you, granddaughter! Come here and give your Grandfather a hug!" I swam to him and gave him the hug he asked for, smiling and laughing, saying "It's good to see you too! It's been so long!" I looked at Sebastian and said to him, "Hi, Sebastian, Mom told me to tell you that she said hi, too." I let go of Grandfather and told him, "Grandfather, I would like to introduce to you a friend of mine, Derek."

I bowed before the king respectfully and looked over at Melody. She had seemed to stop shivering, which was good. I turned my attention back to the king. "You have some pretty amazing relatives." I flashed a smile at Melody and stared at her for a little while. She was very special in her own way. And that hair was so..."beautiful," I whispered before I could stop it. "Did I just say that out loud?" I asked.

I looked at Derek when he whispered the word 'beautiful' and said to him, "Yeah, I think you did," I smiled at him and did a little chuckle. Looking at him with confusion on his face makes me want to burst out laughing, but I managed to stop myself before I did. As I looked at him, I noticed a lot of things I didn't notice before: The way his blond hair sets over his eyes like a covering, giving his blue eyes an even more handsome look than what they already have. The way his smile seems to fit with his laughter and everything. I breathed a light sigh, thinking to myself, 'He is so handsome....Maybe just like my dad was when he and my mom first met.' I smiled, one I only saw on my mom's face when she is with Dad, and now could feel it on mine.

I chuckled a little bit as well at the fact that I had said that one word out loud, and rubbed my neck in embarrassment. I took another look at her and saw her smile at me in a strange kind of way, one I had never seen on anyone except those in love. Before I did something else embarrassing, I cleared my throat and talked to the two again. "So, now that you're with your grandfather, I'll just go." I turned around and began swimming, but slowly, just in case Melody didn't want me to go. Or maybe it was just because I didn't want to leave.

I watched him swim away slowly, then I said, well rather blurted out, "Are you sure you want to go? I think maybe that you should stay for a little while and maybe we could continue with the tour." I put my hand to my mouth, thinking to myself, 'I crazier than Scuttle the seagull!' I cleared my throat and said, "I, um, what I meant was that maybe you could wait outside in the hallway or something while me and my grandfather talk, and then we can finish looking at the rest of Atlantica."

I turned around and gave Melody a slight smile, athough inside I was bursting with excitement. She wanted me to stay around for a little while! "Okay," I say calmly, and wait just outside of the throne room. I closed my eyes and thought back to the first two times we saw each other: the time when she couldn't say her name, and I thought it was Mel-Mel, and then the day when she took away the gate separating the ocean from the castle. She had been wearing a yellow dress, but she was still as pretty as ever, and it was nice to bump into her then. We probably wouldn't be this close if it wasn't for that encounter. Then I thought of her neckelace. It had a nice tune to it when it was open. Does she think about me when she opens that, ever since she metme? Or is it just a sad thing for her? I wondered.

I sighed, knowing that I would have a serious talk with Mom when I get back, then I turned to Grandfather and I said, "Grandfather, I need to tell you something," He looked at me and asked, "What is it Melody?" I replied with a strange sound in my voice, "Well, for the past few weeks or so, I've had these strange dreams, all of them are about the same thing." Grandfather grabbed my hand and took me over to his throne and set me down on his lap, saying, "Go on," and then I took a deep breath and started by saying, "The dreams start like this: I'm at the edge of the beach, just watching the sunset and everything, when all of a sudden, this shadow rises out of the water, at first I didn't recognize it, but as the shadow was taking shape, I could see what, or who it was. It was Morgana, back from being frozen in the giant block of ice. I don't know how she escaped, but all I knew is that I was scared, then she cackled like she way she does, and said "Now you will do as I command for all time, you little brat," and then she waves her hand and I felt like I lost control of my own body, and before I was carried away into the ocean, I saw faces, your face, mom and dad's faces, and even....Derek's face. All of them were filled with fear, except his; his look told me that he would do whatever he can to save me, I don't know how I knew, but that's what I felt. Then Morgana dragged me to the deepest darkest part of the ocean while I screamed, "No! No! Let go of me!" And then I wake up, breathing hard and in a cold sweat." I stopped and looked at Grandfather to see his reaction. Then he said to me, "Well, Melody, you know as well as I do that Morgana will never come back, right?" I nodded, then said, "I know, but it just felt so real, I......What should I do?" Grandfather hugged me close to him and said, "All you have to do is just never think about the dream, and it will go away for good, Okay?" I smiled, then kissed his cheek and I said, "OK, Grandfather, I will, I gotta go, Derek's waiting for me, you know, to show me the rest of Atlantica." I turned and started for the door, not knowing that Grandfather was looking at me with a sad expression on his face.
