"Nah. You just think that way. Nobody is born great at anything. Everyone has to achieve greatness in what they do." Shwari pointed out. "Like I said, all you need is practice. Don't take my word for it, look at Husudu. You think he got that way when he was born? He traveled the desert, challenging rogue after rogue. You kind of get experience when you are in like billions of fights." Shwari murmured with a grin. He listened to her ask about what he really excelled in. He rolled his eyes when she called herself a hopeless case.

"No. I excel in whatever my mind is intent on. If I want food, i'll excel in hunting, if I want to help a pretty little thing like yourself get over her faults then I excel in that. I'm nothing special really. Just an ordinary lion. You on the other hand are a Shaman, and have a good use in this pride." Shwari said with a raised eyebrow.

~ Siri and Vitani ~

"I'm...sorry. I am just not in the mood for such things. Besides, I am with cub. It would be way too dangerous to train these lionesses. I can tell you about some rogue tactics though. Dirty tricks is what rogues will use the most. Don't for an instant fall to their false fear or cowardice. The moment you spare one of them, is the same moment you will die." Siri said in monotone. She sighed as she looked out to the horizon again, hoping, just hoping, that she'd said Kivuli coming towards the pridelands again. She knew he wouldn't but hoping made her feel more comfortable with his absence.

Adopting a humorous smile as she listened intently to what Schwari was telling her, Zina shook her head from the comment about Husudu, but didn’t say anything that crossed her mind. Hearing his next statement however, the white furred Shaman found herself giggling openly as she exclaimed in an amused tone.

”Oh, a lion of many talents huh? Well, if it was any other lion, I might beg to differ, but I suppose I can see that about you Schwari. Still, you seriously have your paws full if you think you can help me get past everything that troubles me in life.”

Giving her snow white pelt one last good shake to dislodge any remaining strands of grass that might still be attached to her, Zina motioned towards the opposite end of Pride Rock before she spoke up once more.

”C’mon, we still have herbs to gather you know. Enough with the things I’m bad at. Let’s at least do something I have a bit of confidence in doing.”

Just to show Schwari that her trust in him had improved, Zina boldly took lead, her tail still a bit resistant on acting properly as it remained positioned between her hind legs, yet the rest of her body remained relaxed. Returning her eyes back in front of her now, Zina worked her senses to try and find some beneficial herbs that would prove useful for the upcoming fight, all the while, continuing her small conversation with the grey furred male as they walked along.

”We need to find some herbs that will stop bleeding, as well as some antiseptic ones as well. I just hope that Vitani lioness can shape up the rest of the pride so that they are ready…when the time comes.”

Glancing over at Schwari with a curious expression, triggered by her own comment, Zina asked in an inquisitive fashion.

”After we rid ourselves of Maju and his horde, what are you and your brother going to do then Schwari? Will you two leave,” Zina’s voice slightly faltered upon the last word as she continued. ”or will you two stay with Kovu’s pride?”

==========

Lowering her ears partially from forgetting about Siri’s current condition of being pregnant, Vitani was about to speak up to apologize for her thoughtless suggestion, when Siri shared her knowledge for the given situation, causing the former Outlander to smile warmly up at the expecting lioness, an appreciative expression clearly etched upon her face as she replied in a thankful voice.

”You’re wise beyond your years Siri and I thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.”

Letting Siri be now, Vitani turned her focus back to the small group of awaiting lionesses, eager to get the training finished so she could retire back to the main den and hopefully get in some more much needed quality time with her beloved Ayari.

Shwari looked to Zina for a moment, and remained silent. He really didn't want to answer that question, and he wished she hadn't asked it. "I don't know what I want to do. Part of me wants to stay here and be happy. The other part wants me to go back to my home in the jungle. I really don't know which way to go, and I figured I'd cross that bridge when I come to it. I'm tired of being a rogue..." Shwari said quietly as he followed after Zina. He wanted to change the subject.

"Maybe you can teach me a thing or two about herbs hm? Perhaps I can prove to you that anyone, can do anything if they just have the passion for it." Shwari said with a smug smirk, and superior gaze towards the white furred lioness.

~ Siri and Vitani ~

"I'm not wise, just logical." Siri stated as her ears flattened against her head, and she began to walk back to the den. "By the way Vitani. Don't do anything with Ayari until this is all over. Don't get closer...because if he dies you will be in my position." Siri explained as she looked sadly to the younger lioness and made her way quicker into the den. The only thing keeping Siri from breaking down in tears is the fact that at least she'd have a cub to remember Kivuli by. She would raise and protect that cub with her life.

Trying her best to bottle up her feelings that resulted from what Schwari’s response was to her inquiry, as a part of her wanted to try and convince him to stay, while another part of her wasn’t even sure of what exactly she herself was going to do once Maju and his horde were a thing of the past. For now however, Zina left the matter unsettled as she turned her focus upon what Schwari stated next. Looking over at the grey furred male with a genuinely intrigued gaze, Zina almost jumped at the opportunity to show her vast knowledge to someone who seemed to care. Thinking things over for a moment, the proud Shaman spoke up in a lecturing manner as she started.

”Well, let’s see. Obviously, the first rule of Shamanism is to know your herbs. Combining the wrong plants and flora together can have very drastic results if you’re not careful, so a solid understanding of how each and every herb you work with, is needed before one can even begin to delve into the much more complex workings of being a successful Shaman. It’s not quite as hard as it looks though, you see, nature has a way of giving subtle clues to those who take the time to notice them, about just what each plant or flower is capable of and how it should be used or paired with other herbs. These subtle, yet very apparent and rational clues can be detected by both sight and scent, sometimes even by touch or taste even, although I wouldn’t go sticking every herb in your mouth or you’re bound to regret it at times.”

Padding up to a small patch of grass that housed a group of brightly colored flowers, Zina’s paw motioned towards the closest of the bunch, which had a bright reddish hue to it, turning to Schwari as she stated.

”Take a look at that flower there. Give it a good and thorough examination and then, give it a smell. Think about it’s appearance and the scent it gives off and then tell me what you think it could be used for, okay?”

Moving aside so that the grey furred male could have the best vantage point to look over the flora in question, Zina waited patiently for Schwari to do as was asked of him, her tail slowly coming to life as she started to feel even more relaxed within the grey furred male’s presence.

==========

Already engaged in a sparring match with one of the larger lionesses from the group, Vitani’s ears barely caught wind of what Siri had stated before she had disappeared within the main den, but from what her ears did pick up however, was enough to shake the former Outlander’s concentration for a split second, never a wise move during a sparring match as was proven obvious with a sharp paw swipe to the face, leaving a light gash along one of Vitani’s cheeks.

Hastily apologizing as a small trickle of blood dripped down her instructor’s face, the worried lioness quickly backed off before Vitani spoke in a sympathetic voice to the concerned looking group.

”That was my fault. Don’t worry. That just goes to show you what a momentary laps of focus can do to you. Had that been a member of Maju’s horde, I probably wouldn’t be standing right now though.”

Raising a paw to her cheek and examining the extent of the injury, Vitani frowned as her paw pads were lightly stained with a crimson tone, causing her to halt the day’s proceedings for the time being, realizing that she should clean her injury before any further attempts at training could proceed.

Having her first thought being to head to the local waterhole to wash her face, Vitani was about to bound off, when she recalled her brother’s order that no one should go out into The Grasslands unaccompanied, Vitani decided to fetch Ayari to escort her to the waterhole instead, although she could have more than easily asked one of the half dozen or so lionesses that stood before her to go along, Vitani wasn’t about to pass up a free opportunity to spend a moment, if only a short one, with her old friend, and maybe get a small plea of pity from him with having this tiny little injury of hers. Making her way up to the main den, Vitani gave her cheek one last quick rub, just to make sure that her face wasn’t overly unpresentable looking, before she moved inside and called over to Ayari, who was still positioned where she had left him last.

”Hey Handsome, would you please escort me to the waterhole?” Vitani stated, keeping a direct stare towards Ayari, just so her invitation wouldn’t be misconstrued by anyone who it wasn’t intended for in the first place.

Shwari did as he was instructed and sat there just looking at the flower for a moment. The flower was a bright blue, and he had no idea would it would do then. He then took a quick whiff, and he almost blacked out from the aroma. "Ok...I have no idea what that could possibly do...except induce blackouts and vomiting." Shwari muttered in a muffled tone as he covered his mouth with one paw to keep the contents of his stomach in. He looked to Zina, hoping that she'd give him the real function of the plant. It must be quite tough for her to be a shaman, putting herself in situations just like his own.

~ At the den ~

At the den, Ayari was having a very lazy day. He was napping when Vitani made her way in and woke him up with the invitation to go to the water hole. He rubbed his eyes and smiled. "Of course. I need to get out today." Ayari said as he stretched with a grunt. He then quickly trotted along side Vitani looking to the wounds on her face. He frowned slightly, trying to lick them clean. "I'm guessing they are improving?" Ayari asked as he walked outside the den with her. Seeing Vitani wounded was nothing new to him. When they were cubs, she'd get cuts and scrapes all the time but she just kept on training. It wasn't the same with Kovu though, he'd always get so worked up over one small flesh wound and gave up training for that entire day.

Watching Schwari’s reaction to the foul smelling flora, Zina listened to what conclusion the grey furred male had made about the potential herb before she smiled and nodded before replying in a thoughtful tone.

”You’re on the right track there Schwari. Indeed, this herb, if taken in a small amount, will result in you vomiting. Why on earth would you want that to happen though? Well, think about it. Let’s say you ate some really bad carrion while you’re traveling, or in my case, just to survive since you’ve seen that my hunting skills, or lack there of, aren’t exactly up to par with a lioness’ standards. Anyways, let’s say you ate it right, and afterwards, you just have the worst stomach ache. Well, take a small amount of this herb and after quite the messy moment, I assure you, you’ll feel better.”

Giving Schwari a friendly grin, Zina carefully plucked off a single peddle from the pungent flower, holding it in her paw as she resumed speaking.

”Now you remember what I told you about mixing herbs, right? Well, now that you know what this one does, imagine combining it with, oh, let’s say, an herb that breaks down internal organs. What do you suppose the outcome of that mixture would be?” Knowing full well that Schwari was bright enough to see what she was hinting at, Zina fielded the answer to her own question as she picked up where she had left off. ”Exactly, something that you don’t want to mess with. One of the universal rules of being a Shaman is that you’re not supposed to use your knowledge in disreputable ways, although I’m sure you can guess how often this unsung rule is broken. It’s amazing to me, just how one little change to a simple recipe, can transform something that could potentially save ones life, into something that could just as easily end it.”

Letting the single peddle from the flower, slip between her paw toes now, Zina turned her focus to another one of the adjoining flowers in the small patch, gingerly snipping off an entire bud from the stem as she lowered her head so that her herb pouch slipped from around her neck. Opening it up, Zina plopped the flora inside before closing it once again and repositioning it back around her neck before she stated.

”That one I just took, it’s part of the mixture that we’re after. The one that will stop open wounds from bleeding. There’s still several more herbs we need though, so let’s get a move on, kay?”

Giving another fond smile to Schwari, as she was quickly finding herself enjoying his company now that her own interests had taken the spotlight, Zina moved off, her figure looking like the picturesque lioness that Schwari had hinted at, that had laid dormant within Zina’s being for the longest time, only now, beginning to surface.

==========

Giving Siri a quick stare before she moved outside with Ayari, Siri’s words still hovering about within her thoughts, Vitani managed a sheepish grin from what her old friend stated, causing the former Outlander to reply in a hopeful voice.

”Well, as best that could be hoped for I suppose Ayari. Maybe if we were going up against a horde of angry meerkats, we might stand a bit of a chance of victory, but for now, there’s still a lot of work to be done.”

Walking alongside her love interest, Vitani stayed quiet for a second, melding over what Siri had said. Glancing over at Ayari, Vitani spoke up once more, a hint of uncertainty in her voice as she did so.

”Ayari? Are you…scared about this upcoming battle? I mean, not scared as in, afraid to fight…but…scared to maybe…lose?”

Shwari listened to what the petal did, with a very disgusted look on his face. "It's beautiful, but smells like rotting flesh. What a wonderful property in a plant." Shwari said in a very sarcastic way. He took his paw away from his nose and sniffed the air. There was no trace of the petal's scent left in his nostrils. He smiled at Zina, listening intently to her instruction. When she said that they should move on, he quickly trotted up next to her. "I don't wanna travel behind you. Now it makes ME feel uncomfortable. Me being a male and dominance and all that." Shwari said with a grin. "How would you feel about me walking alongside you?" Shwari asked with a wide grin.

~ Vitani and Ayari ~

Ayari was gazing lovingly at her as they made their way to the watering hole. When they got there, he listened to her question and looked to his reflection. "Yeah. I am. I'm afraid of losing the battle that I started. I'm afraid of losing you, and destroying the lives of everyone here. I'm afraid of losing myself too." Ayari murmured as he nuzzled Vitani affectionately. "I think all you can really do is train these lionesses the best you can. I won't let you all assemble in the front lines though, that is MY responsibility." Ayari said as he nipped her cheek gently.

Taking Schwari’s request into consideration, Zina nodded as she responded in an accepting voice.

”I see no harm in that Schwari.”

True to her word, Zina allowed the grey furred male to walk up alongside her as the pair made their way through The Grasslands together, all the while, the white furred Shaman’s eyes drifted from her surroundings to Schwari and back again. A short while passed with neither side saying much of anything but hating the unplanned silence, Zina found herself speaking up to disrupt their awkward moment.

”So…I’ve got an idea. Come over here for a minute Schwari.” Zina stated, leading the two of them over towards an odd looking patch of grass.

Taking a seat next to the outcrop, Zina plucked a single strand of the fibrous plant and offered it to Schwari as she too, took one in her muzzle and chewed upon it thoughtfully before she swallowed it and spoke.

”Eat this, then ask me any question that’s on your mind, okay?”

Seeing Schwari’s rather puzzled expression, Zina smiled as she licked over her muzzle lips before going into detail about why she had asked him to do what she had.

”C’mon Schwari, just do it. This herb helps to relax your body, in turn, making it impossible to lie when asked a question. You ask me something and I’ll tell you the truth no matter what. Then, I get to ask you something.”

==========

Wincing slightly from Ayari’s light nip to her injured cheek, knowing that it was by accident however, the former outlander smiled as she lowered her front half towards the crystal clear pool of water, lightly splashing some of the liquid onto her face to clean the small cut there. As she did this, Vitani replied to her old friend’s response, her eyes watching her own distorted reflection from within the waterhole.

”That makes two of us then Ayari. I’m scared of losing you. Something that Siri told me…it’s been bugging me and well…ahh, never mind.”

Looking over herself in the water one last time, Vitani raised her head and stood up once more, her cheek still dripping from the water that had been applied there. Turning towards Ayari now, she leaned in close, her nose buried within her old friend’s thick mane as she took in his scent and murmured softly.

”I don’t want to lose you Ayari. You know my life wouldn’t be the same if you’re gone.”

Purring quietly, Vitani nuzzled Ayari affectionately as she whispered to him, her eyes meeting his stare.

”Will you stay with me tonight Ayari? Not in the main den, but somewhere we can be alone? That little den I showed you below The Promontory. I know my brother said that no one should be out after dark, but we’d still technically be at Pride Rock.”

Looking deep into Ayari’s eyes with a hopeful gaze, Vitani waited for his reply, almost certain herself that he’d accept her invitation however, if Siri had gotten to Ayari first, maybe he would be reluctant to take her up on such a suggestion.

[OOC: Drug abuse D: -cough- Jk :P]

Shwari looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "You know, if I had anything to hide I'd totally shoot down that idea." Shwari said with a grin. "Though the truth of the matter is, I really DON'T have anything to hide, so what the hey?" Shwari said as he took some of the same flower and quickly ingested it. He was wondering if it was going to have any effect on him, and as if on cue his body felt so much lighter. He was almost weightless now! He felt his mind go at complete peace, not even thinking about the battle that is to come, or protecting Zina, or even of the encounter they had with the two lions earlier. His mind was just blank.

"Ok? Me first?" Shwari said in a relaxed and dreamy tone. "What was the first thing that ran through your mind when I plopped down that herb pouch in front of you?" Shwari asked with a bold stare.

~ Vitani and Ayari ~

Ayari looked at Vitani remorsefully for harming her, hoping it didn't hurt her too bad. When she washed out the wounds a bit, he looked to her with a tilted head. His ears pricked as she said that she wanted to be alone with him that night. He smiled and nuzzled her. "I'll spend as much time as I can with you. If I die, or live that time will be will spent." Ayari purred quietly.

Ayari gazed affectionately at Vitani again. What he'd give to hear her thoughts right now.

Without any hesitation, Zina told Schwari the unabashed truth for the question he had posed to her.

”Honestly, I was surprised that you would have gone to such lengths to do something like that for someone you hardly even knew. I thought you were trying to butter me up though, so you could mate with me though. I’m sorry, but that’s just how I felt. Obviously now that you know more about my past, that shouldn’t seem too unusual of a reaction though coming from someone like me. I know now that your intentions were sincere and I really am appreciative for what you did Schwari.”

Smiling warmly at the grey furred male, it was Zina’s turn to interrogate Schwari as she thought for a moment, knowing that she’d only have perhaps, one chance to find out the truth to a question that had been plaguing her mind for some time now. Speaking up in an uncertain voice, Zina inquired.

”Okay, my turn. Erm…what are your feelings towards me Schwari? Why are you trying so hard to make me feel like I matter?”

Keeping her focus upon Schwari as she waited for his answer, Zina fidgeted nervously in the grass, her fore paws feeling as if they were sweating as she anticipated his response.

==========

Frowning slightly from Ayari’s remark, Vitani looked away from him for a split second as she scolded him in a soft tone.

”Please, don’t say that Ayari, I don’t want to think about you dying…”

Turning her gaze back to Ayari once again, a single tear beginning to form in her eyes, the seemingly invincible lioness’ nerves were starting to get the better of her as she managed to continue speaking.

”Back when I fought against Simba and his pride under my mother’s rule, I had no fears and no regrets for what I was doing. This is different though. I have a reason to fight now…but I also have something very important that I could lose too…”

Moving in closer to her old friend, feeling his warm body against her own, Vitani let that single tear slip down her cheek as she huddled against Ayari, speaking to him in a shaky voice.

”Hold me close Ayari…just for a minute…please.”
