Okay...this piece of art is pretty big, and thus requires a long explanation:
In the vast TLK world, there is a lot of material to draw inspiration from. Aside from the movies, there are the books, the comics, the TV show, the musical, and the computer games...all of which have a tendency to contradict each other in numerous ways.
For example, there are many cubs in Mufasa's pride in the many Dutch and German comics based on TLK, yet in TLK itself, Simba and Nala appear to be the only ones (not counting Nala's brother Mheetu, who was cut from production).
The identity of Simba's son is another source of conflict. Many people disregard Chaka, the cub dropped from SP early in production, whose name was "the closest thing to an official Disney name"*, in favor of the already established Kopa from TLK:6NA, even though it is doubtful that the people working on SP had even heard of TLK:6NA. Some people even try merging the two sources and make the two brothers, with Kiara as their younger sister.
There are also a variety of Outsider lionesses that appear in books based on SP that look nothing like the ones in the movie, not to mention a multitude of cubs (plus their mothers) in the SP: Active Play computer game, and I'm not even going to mention the "Be Prepared" level of the TLK game.
So how can one possibly hope to reconcile all of these drastically different facets of the TLK universe? Well, I decided to split them apart instead.
This Flash file documents three different "versions" of TLK: the movie version, the book/comic version, and the computer game version. These three versions are analyzed in extreme detail with as much accuracy as possible, with many of the idiosyncrasies of non-movie characters pointed out. For example:
-Vitani's design actually changes less drastically in the SP Mouseworks book than it does in the movie
-Kovu looks suspiciously even more like Scar in the SP Gamebreak! game
-There is another lioness besides Vitani with "bangs" in the SP Little Golden Book
-Nala appears with ear rims and blue eyes in several TLK comics
I've said before that I sometimes consider TLK:6NA and the movies to be seperate entities, so I thought I'd expand on this idea to hopefully clear things up for some people who might be a little confused by all these names like Kopa, Chaka, Shani and Naba flying around.
Now, with all that out of the way, here is...
Alternate Universes of The Lion King
By the way: TLK 1.5, the TLK musical and the Timon and Pumbaa series are three things I didn't include in this file, though they have their share of contradictions as well. Timon's origin story in the TV series is completely different than the one in TLK 1.5, and if you consider what the directors of TLK have to say to be accurate,** then Scar was seducing either his daughter or his niece in the musical.
And also: Nadra, I used the colors from your group picture of the Outsiders to color the Outsiders I drew here. I hope that's okay with you. : )
