A Day With Dad (Kung Fu Panda AU Oneshot)

I meant to post this yesterday in honor of Father's Day, but forgot. Oh well. Read and enjoy. No flaming or bashing please.

A Day With Dad



It had been a year since Po and Tigress had started dating. Po was now 19, while Tigress was now 18. Summer had just begun, and right now, it was morning, and Tigress had bathed and dried off and was now getting dressed. Today, she should be would be going with Shifu to the lakeside village of Hu Pan, a town about 80 miles away. Last month, Su-Lin had suggested that Shifu and Tigress spend some time together. Shifu had decided upon the location, and it was decided. Hu Pan was a beautiful place, situated near an equally beautiful lake. Just as she finished getting dressed, she heard a knock at the door.

“Who is it?” Tigress asked.

“It’s Po,” the voice from beyond the door said.

Tigress went over and opened it, revealing her beloved boyfriend.

“Po, what are you doing here?” she asked.

“I just wanted to say goodbye since I won’t be seeing you all day,” the panda replied.

“Po, it’s only for a day. I’ll be back tonight,” Tigress answered.

Po gave her a small pout.

“Oh come on, Panda. You can take it,” Tigress said with a small smile.

“Fine. I can tolerate it, but I won’t like it,” the panda said.

Tigress hugged him.

“I’ll miss you,” she said.

And with that, Po walked her out.

“Can I at least share breakfast with you?” he asked.

Tigress smiled.

“All right,” she answered.

And with that, they went to the kitchen together. Shifu and Su-Lin were already there, enjoying a breakfast of rice. Shifu looked at his daughter.

“Are you ready for this trip?” he began.

“Yes sir,” Tigress answered.

“I think you will like Hu Pan very much. It’s very pleasant, with many restaurants, shops and so on,” Shifu continued.

Tigress listened intently. After breakfast, she and Shifu said their goodbyes and then took off. They continued traveling. Sometime later, around lunchtime, they arrived at Hu Pan. Tigress marveled at the village and at the lake.

“Let’s have lunch. We’ll look around then,” Shifu said.

Father and daughter chose a restaurant called “The Lotus blossom café”. Shifu got a bowl of noodle soup, while Tigress got orange chicken and rice. As they ate, they talked.

“So, what do you think of this town?” Shifu asked.

“It’s very beautiful,” Tigress said.

“As are you, dear daughter,” Shifu continued.

Tigress smiled.

“What do you think Po is doing right now?” she asked.

“Probably missing you,” Shifu answered with a laugh.

It was true. Back in the Jade Palace, Po was sitting in the Hall of Warriors, missing his beloved. It was then that Mei Ling came in. She saw the panda that she once babysat looking sad.

“She’s having a good time. You should be happy for her,” the Mountain cat said.

“Yeah, but it’s different when she’s not here,” Po answered.

“How so?” Mei Ling replied.

“She motivates me in my training,” Po explained.

Mei Ling nodded.

“I understand, but she needs her time to rest,” she said.

Po began to understand. In Hu Pan, Tigress and Shifu had finished eating and were sightseeing. It was then that they decided to go and sit together by the lake. As they sat under a tree, Shifu began to doze off. When that happened, Tigress’ beautiful face took on a devious look. She got closer. Then, without warning, she reached out and began tickling her father.

“Tigress!” Shifu exclaimed.

“Come on, Dad. Where’s your sense of fun?” Tigress asked.

“Oh it’s fun you want, huh?” Shifu replied.

Shifu then reached out and began to tickle his beloved daughter back. Tigress fell back in surprise.

“Dad, you tickled me back!” she exclaimed.

“Yes,” Shifu replied.

Father and daughter looked at each for a moment, then, without warning, a tickle fight broke out. In that moment, Tigress learned just how good her father could tickle. For the longest time, they had fun. Then, all of a sudden, they heard loud cackling. Shifu and Tigress stopped and stood up. There was only one place Shifu had heard cackling like that: when he had saved Su-Lin from Qin Shih-Huang and his fellow hyena bandits. It was the laughing of hyenas. It was then that Shifu was proven right, for a pair of hyenas emerged. They approached.

“Hello,” one of the hyenas said.

“Who are you and what are you doing here?” Shifu demanded.

“You don’t remember us?” the other hyena said.

Shifu looked at them.

“You killed our leader, Qin Shih-Huang, years ago,” the first hyena informed him.

Shifu realized that these were part of the gang that had kidnapped Su-Lin.

“And now, I will take you both out,” Shifu said calmly.

However, it wasn’t to last. One of the vile bandits approached Tigress.

“Who is this?” the first hyena said.

“My daughter,” Shifu answered.

“Perhaps we should bust her pretty face in to teach the Red panda a lesson,” the second hyena replied with a snarl.

Tigress glared.

“Are you sure you want to take the risk?” she asked.

The hyenas backed up in confusion. In that moment, Tigress and Shifu attacked. The hyenas were wholly unprepared. Soon, they lay on the ground, beaten, bruised and broken. They were barely moving. Tigress and Shifu decided to leave them to their fates.

“Well, shall we go?” Shifu asked.

“Yes,” Tigress answered.

And so, they were able to finish their day in complete peace. When evening came, father and daughter began the journey back to the Jade Palace. Finally, they arrived. Immediately, Tigress entered, greeted her mother, and then went to find Po. She found him in one of the relaxation rooms.

“Hey Panda,” she began.

Po looked up.

“Tigress! You’re back!” the panda exclaimed.

He then went over and hugged her. She returned the favor.

“So, how was your day?” Po continued.

Tigress smiled.

“It was great,” she said.

“How so?” Po asked.

Tigress told him the whole story. Po looked deep into her eyes.

“As of today, I declare you my totally awesome queen of Kung Fu,” he stated.

“All right, I can live with that,” Tigress replied.

After that, they spent some more time together, and then went to bed, planning to talk more in the morning.
