Winds of Change (Working Title)
Chapter One
Something Wicked this way Comes.
I'm running.
I don't know why, I don't know where.
The only thing I do know is I cannot see anything at all. It's pitch black. I hear crunching noises everytime I put my foot down. Am I in a forest? I stumble over something, a tree root. I'm running in a forest. I stop suddenly, suddenly realizing I had will to do so. I sit on a tree root, I start to recollect my thoughts. I only remember I was at a friends house. We were playing video games and watching TV. Then, we went to bed (It was a sleepover I think...) I heard noises outside my friends door. It sounded like something Smashing things. I froze and looked at the clock; 3:04 AM? Hmm... Why would anyone be up at 3:00 in the morning. Lets see, who was there? My friend was in the bed next to me. It wasn't her. It could be her dad, he was always a pretty violent man. That would explain the smashing noises. I realized my friend hadn't even moved at all since I started hearing the noises. Sound sleeper. I decided to investigate. The smashing had been stopped for about 10 minutes. It was 4:22, they'd been in breaking things for nearly two hours.
As scared as I was I thought of my friend and her mother, but not her father. I hated her father. I equipped myself with a flashlight and a baseball bat. Hopefully these would help ward off whatever was down the stairs awaiting me. Before I left I decided to check on Heidi, she was fine, sleeping like a baby. I smiled shortly and walked away. carefully shutting the door with just a little crack so if I had to run back fast and get in bed I could.Suddenly, as soon as I stepped out, a horrible smell hit my nostrils with the impact of a tidal wave. It was a mix of blood, gore, and sulphur; I had never smelt anything this foul ever. I hacked trying not to choke on the vomit creeping up my throat. Soon I gave in and vomited on the staircase. I felt deathly ill. My breath was fading and my sight was getting blurrier by the minute. I almost fainted, but before I did I managed to take a quick peek over the rail of the staircase. What I saw made me vomit once more over the balcony. The front door was flung wide open. Much too wide because there was a spider's web of cracks all across the wall. The windows on the door shattered from the impact as well. Small bits of glass covered the rug around the front door.
I looked over to the bookcase that Heidi's grandmother had given her when she was 7. It was cracked all over in every way you could think of. A sharp pang of sadness shot straight into my heart. That bookcase was cherished by the whole family, even Heidi's father loved it. It was like the glue that held the Weinsteins together through tough times. Normally they wouldn't care about a stupid bookcase, but this one was not a normal bookcase. It was a light blue structure about 4 feet tall, like most but this one was differnent because of the designs. Every inch of it was a different colour, and design for each inch. Heidi's grandmother had given it too her when the doctors had found out her grandmother had a disease called "lung cancer." The very first thing she had decided to do was make one last project. One the family would keep forever. The bookcase was that object. The Weinsteins were always the spiritual and superstitious type of close knit group. Always telling us kids about how not to spill sat or you would get horrid luck or not to cross a black cats path at any cost. So when the grandmother was making the bookcase she transferred a piece of her soul (supposedly) into a piece of the wood. She got weaker and weaker everyday she worked on it. The day she finished it she died. Out of respect the Weinsteins never put anything on it at all. If anyone ever did the family would never invite them over or speak to them ever again (This has happened at least 12 times since I started visting.).
I looked for the TV or the TV cabinet but I could not find heads not tail of it. The TV was stolen, but the cabinet was probably in the massive pile of wood in the middle of the living room. Wait, a pile of wood? What are piles of wood usually used for? Fires! Someone was going to build a fire in the house! Fear struck me like an oncoming train to a school boy. Soon I heard talking outside. I rushed down the steps, careful not to trip over anything or stumble. I reached the kitchen. Right behind me was the back door so I could escape if needed. The smell was getting stronger (and my nose was getting used to it apparently), as the voices got closer. Soon they were right outside the door. The voices sounded like a young woman around 16, a black man near 50, and a small child around 5 or 6. I wonder if the man was a kidnapper. It sounded like it. He had the sterotypical deep african voice I didn't even know existed in real life. Suddenly, A gunshot one, two, another. the group seemed to be being chased. They quickly reacted by bolting into the house. I almost was about to wet myself with extreme fear. Was it my last day? The smell got closer. It apparently wasn't the trio of weirdos running in like roadrunners. It was the gunmen. I hid under the table as soon as the voices got nearer and the footsteps got closer. There was that stench again with it's disgusting mix of all the worst smells.
"Alright Cavaliers! Come out or we'll shoot you to death!"
"Yeah! or burn this primitive dump down!"
I was so afraid. The people with guns were here with the scent of blood and anguish.
"Wait! Zenn! I smell something human!"
"Well Taro this IS a human house..."
"No I mean, no one else I smell is human.
"Hey you're actually right Taroset. I smell human blood. Are you hungry Taroset?"
"I haven't eaten in 4 months Zenn! Of course I am!"
"Well how about a little snack before we try to find these guys. Remember, they could be anywhere at anytime all you need to remember is their smell."
"Right sir. Uh, which one is the teen supposed to be Zenn?"
"Guess. You were supposed to memorize this..."
"Lycanthrope?"
"No that's Jutz. Good guess thought Taroset. You're learning."
"Right. Lets go chow down."
The mysterious hunter like people left in a hurry. I was seriously freaked out. Eating people? Werewolves? Human Homes? Weird names like Taroset and Jutz?
What the hell was going on? I wasn't as scared as I was before then. But what did the people mean by smelling somethin human? And why did they not come after me? I'm obviously a human. Aren't I?
Chapter 2
The Awful Truth
I had been under the table for at least an hour. Scared out my wits. The people were eating "someone." They had been for about an hour.
"Oh please."
I whispered silently.
"Please tell me Heidi is safe god. Please, keep her safe. Her mother too, she's a good woman."
I was never to big on the whole "god" thing. I always had thought It was a waste of time. That it was just something made up to distract people from science and real things. Now I was desperate. And crying my eyes out because of the thought of Heidi and her mother being eaten alive. I had stopped crying after a few minutes and picked up the bat. I was going to protect my only friends even if it took my life. I was fearless. Thinking nothing would get in my way. I was a god. Something inside me was awakening slowly but surely.
From this point on I remember nothing. All I can think of was I picked up my bat, got defeated by the hunters of the theives and been dumped in a forest. I had scratches on my arms and a swollen eye to support this theory. But where am I? The sun is coming up, indicating I've been here since yesterday night. It was the day after. I tried looking to my phone, but it just wouldn't work. Instead of a menu or my wallpaper appearing. All I saw was a black and white smiley face. This was suspicious and creepy. Where am I? I reach around and see if I still had my fllashlight. I found it and turned it on. A blast of clear light burst throught the entire forest. As soon as it turned on I was surprised by the cawing and croaking of a million angry buzzards. Apparently they were waiting to devour me as soon as I had fallen asleep. Not happening guys. Sorry. Now that the buzzards were gone I could see something interesting. The buzzards had been covering the entire forest! I could see that it was day, not midnight. I smiled at the sun as it smiled back. I could see I was on a path now. I was in a sort of Evergreen forest, surrounded by pines of every shape and size. The forest was actually quite peaceful when It wasn't dark and covered by birds. It had a certain aura of life around it. It was soothing. Maybe that was how it was supposed to be. I have never seen a forest with blue trees before. Or a pond with purple water. This was a strange land.
As I walked more along the path I couldn't help think I was being followed. I had been looking behind me every now and then, but all i'd see was the blue trees or a chipmunk every once in a while. Was I being stalked by a rodent? Later, after I'd been walking at least an hour a heard a twig snap behind me. Surprised, I quickly took out the bat i'd been keeping in my belt loop. As soon as I turned around I saw a curious sight. I little man that wasn't a man at all. It was a lizard.
"Y-you see me?"
"Yes"
"Argh! No one is supposed to be able to see me!!" He said in a whiny voice. "Well," he said "You can see me. What Is your wish?"
"Wish?" I asked.
"You don't know?" he asked
I nodded.
"If you see me, Kecklo, I'm supposed to grant you a wish."
"A wish huh. Any rules to this wish?"
"Just one" He replied
"You cannot wish for more wishes. No matter what. And no trying to weasle out of it! I have my ways of knowing if you're cheating."
"Damn, you read my mind."
"Wish already! I'm growing bored."
"Ok, ok. Here is my wish. I wish to know where I am."
"Wow, ok, most people wish for stupid things. I like yours it's easy to answer." He said.
"You are on the planet Earth 2. This planet is a prototype of the next earth to replace the old one."
"Old Earth?" I asked astonished.
"Of course. That planet was always thought of as a dump; this will be different."
"Answer me this then Kecklo." I said, "Where is everyone on Earth and the planet going to go? They just going to sit there or what?"
"Oh no, of course not, that planets getting blown into the sun."
"Oh ok- WHAT?!"
"Yes, yes blown away into sudden and sure death."
"But- but that planet was my home all my friends were there..."
"I'm sorry. But Earth 2 has plenty of space open for you and your party."
"Why are you even doing this? You intergalactic murderer."
"The human race must not continue. That's just all you commoners need to know. I know humans were delicious, but Earth 1 isn't gone just yet. Just go fly there and kidnap a few humans to put in you food safe."
"That's not what i'm worried about! I don't want my planet to be burnt alive!"
"Well i'm sorry ma'm but you just have to accept it. There is nothing you can do. Sorry."
Nothing I can do. Earth is going to explode and be gone forever. I'll never see my mom, dad, or Heidi or her mom ever again. Unless...
"Excuse me! Sir!"
"...Yes?"
"Can you help me please?"
Chapter 3
What am I?
"Yes. What is it?"
"Can you help me find someone?"
"Oh of course. That's my job."
"Mm, her name is Heidi Weinstein."
"Heidi... name sounds familiar. Is she 13? Blonde hair? Blue eyes?"
"Yes! That's her!"
"Oh, great! I can help you find her. Come with me."
My mind is racing. A Chameleon person? All humans dead? How? I'm still alive. I guess. Maybe this is hell... At least I know Heidi is ok. I didn't really care Earth was being destroyed to be honest. Earth 2 seems pretty cool. I like the blue trees and purple water. They look nice. I was growing quite curious of the purple water. Did it taste grapy? I stuck my hand in a nearby puddle. Sniffed it. No smell. Licked it. No taste. It's safe. It's H20 with purple dye apparently.
"Like the purple water?" said Kecklo "I thought of it myself."
"Yeah, it's really cool, the blue trees are too.
"Aren't they." He said dreamily.
"Kecklo?"
"Ma'm?"
"How many people live on Earth 2 right now?
"Oh around 45 or so. Why?"
"Wow! only 45 people on this huge planet. Thats weird."
"Indeed."
Yes I know i'm not done at all. And this isn't the end of this chapter. My arms just ache XD
