Woeler's Poetry

^ So in other words, you have 0% symbolism. What's the point of writing poetry then?

Because, unless you start giving exact dates (for example, that specific march back home), this can still apply to many different places and times.

Now I'll add Napoleon and the fall of the French empire after attacking Russia to the list.

1. All symbolism is in poems but not all poems have symbolism.

2 wrong again. I suppose it's a part European history that is uncommon in American schools. France is not exactly what I call "north".

3. Failing to see symbolism doesn't mean that it isn't there. I said "some hints". Not "all clues". That would ruin the "aha Erlebnis"

4. Again, you guys are not European and I doubt you know this part of European history. A deep bow from my side though if you can figure it out. I may give a final hint later.

I take it from your "you guys ain't European" repetition that it's about some small even that no one really cares, or even heard, about apart from you.

Let me take another guess: The Battle of Balaclava? (Where the term "thin red line" comes from)

No, I'm pretty sure it's just you guys not knowing it. To be honest "red" is one of the easiest clues. What country does "red" ALWAYS represent?

One final hint Fredrikshald

Don't get angry at me for you not knowing the answer. A lot of people care, know and learn about this. What is wrong with asking another hint or saying "idk" instead of making unecessary negative comments. Just because you don't know doesn't make it a bad poem or an unheard of part of history.

And how was that region called when it still had its absolute monarch?

Oh, you two.

Woeler, your poetry is pretty good! If you want my honest recommendation on improving yourself: Try to cut about 1/4 of the words. Less is more, always. Like this:
The sky is cold
The king is dead

Cold sky,
dead king.
March homewards men,
it's over.

Returning.

Kingdom bleeds
A red arrow
Has Pierced
blue heart

Returning.

For country, glory
Picked up hoisted the weapon
A life for good
Of a kingdom

Returning.

Lives taken for granted
Who let it happen
The great era of power
Is over

The Northern empire
Has fallen

Returning

Home
Blah blah blah my poetry class. Slap some punctuation in thar too.

Hey thanks! I'll make sure to think of that next time.
Also, any idea what it is about?

Now, my answer to Woeler's question is about the Great Northern War.
The sky is cold
The king is dead
March homewards men
it's over
I'm not positively sure about Sweden's climate, but the king being referred is Charles XII of Sweden who died in the Siege of Fredriksten, which took place at the city of Halden (Woeler's link hint).
Lives taken for granted
Who let it happen
The great era of power
Is over

The Northern empire
Has fallen

Returning

Home
I'm not sure about the death toll, but the war lasted for about 21 years, so I would assume over 350,000 men given their lives to end a kingdom.

"The Northern empire" is referring the Swedish Empire, which reigned from 1561 to 1721.

We have a winner! Well done. Respect for you knowing what I was talking about!

I'll explain every sentence now

The sky is cold Sweden lies in Scandiavia, one of the most nothern parts of Europe
The king is dead King Charles XII died
March homewards men The end of the Carolean deathmarch (marked by the death of Charles XII)
it's over The great Northern war has ended

Returning Swedish soldiers returning home

The kingdom bleeds The kingdom of Sweden lost a lot of blood, aka men in the battle of Poltava
A red arrow Red represents the Russian monarchy ruled by Peter the great
Pierced Russia won the battle of Poltava
Its blue heart Blue -> Sweden (flag, soldiers uniforms)

Returning

For country, for glory
Picked up the weapon
A life for the good
Of a kingdom Representing the image people had of Charles XII, unstoppable and a glorious winner

Returning

Lives taken for granted The battle of Poltava was a great mistake causing 20.000 Swedish deaths
Who let it happen The king fled aka is gone, where is he? Who is responsible?
The great era of power Sweden lost it's position as greatest nation in northern Europe
Is over

The Northern empire The Swedish Empire
Has fallen Slowly collapses

Returning

Home Referring to the Caroleans marching home from their deathmarch

The Swedish empire started under Gustav Adolph (Gustavus Adolphus) in 1611, it basically started collapsing when Charles XII died in 1718 and was completely gone after the great northern war which ended in 1721.

My hint did indeed refer to the siege of Fredriksten in Halden. Charles XII was killed there although they don't know if he was killed by enemies or by his own men.
