Poem about a soldier

Poem about a soldier

Postby Woeler » January 6th, 2012, 3:21 pm

I wrote this years ago for a school project about WW1. the last paragraph was inspired by a documentary about the war in Iraq.

There once was a soldier
Who fought brave and good
One day he fought so hard,
That the ground was soaked with blood

But the Friday after
There was a bigger fight
And our little soldier,
Got killed and saw the light

The soldier stood and faced god
He knew he’d never pass
He killed so many people,
That he’d never dare to ask

Step forward now you soldier
what should I do with you
Did you do what was good,
My man have you been true?

The soldier then said sadly
I guess I didn’t do
But the ones that shoot with guns,
Are they not made by you?

You probably don’t have a place,
Among the people here
They don’t need a killer around,
I think that’s what I’ll hear

Step forward now, you soldier,
You've kept your word well
Walk with pride through heavens gates
You've done your time in Hell
There are those who complain about the wind, there are those who hope the wind will change, --though the wise-- the wise adjust their sails.

Wow, I really liked this =] It had a lot of meaning to it that I liked, and it's rare to find a poem this good around.

This is really well written, you should write poems more! You don't mind if I make a graphic with these words on do you? I'll give you the credits if you wish.
