Kodi hoped that no matter what happened next, that the male wolf would not harm Annabeth.

The wolf laughed, "Then I'll beat you to a pulp and then kill him!"

Suddenly a voice was heard, "I'm telling you partner, that the female wolf seemed to have an interest in a dog." laughter was heard and another voice said, "I don't believe such a thing is even possible. Even if it is true and you let the wolf go like you said, there's no way we can find her and investigate this any further."

The wolf was annoyed by this audience, "Come out of there fools or I will kill you! When you come out you are to leave and not come back! This is not a theatre!"

Suddenly from between the trees two humans appeared. One of them was the vet who took care of Dusty and Kodi and the other one seemed to be his colleague. The colleague saw the two wolves and immediately pulled out a gun. The vet however recognised Kodi and Annabeth. He took the gun from his colleague and shot the stranger wolf that attacked Kodi in the first place. After he was sure that he did not miss he looked at his friend, "That's her! That's the same wolf!" he pointed at the way Annabeth was shielding Kodi's body with her own, "What does this look like to you?" his colleague said nothing.

Annabeth groweled at the two humans and sheltered Kodi even further. She didn't really remember faces so she didn't recognize the vet.

The vet aimed his gun away and again began talking to his colleague. Kodi meanwhile had absolutely no idea on what in the world has just happened or what was going on. "Annabeth?" he asked quietly and coughed some blood, sounding dizzy, "What's happening?"

Annabeth just whispered, "Stay down." She growled again at the humans trying to get them to leave.

The vet looked at the wolf and said to his colleague, "She doesn't seemI can't. Looks like the male's hurt badly." his friend saw Annabeth's teeth and said, "Suit yourself, I'm out of here." he left.

The wolf tried to get the vet to leave by warning him not to get any closer. She looked at Kodi, "It's okay Kodi. You're going to be fine."
