"Do you get it now, Sparrow?" Thorne said through clenched teeth.

Angelica looked at the small egg. The hole looked big enough to get a finger through, so she did. She yanked at the shell until the hole was big enough to take her out. Unlike any normal baby, she was calm and happy.

"I'm sorry lad, but I won't harm a mermaid." Jack shrugged.

The baby made a laughter like sound, she could see Angelica. The cross angelica wore had a dazzling color to the child, the baby girl reached for it. The baby had a mermaid tail, most likely it wouldn't have human legs until a few weeks.

"Fine. Randall!" The man approached, ready to follow orders. "Take this mermaid to the brig." Randall nodded, and unceremoniously threw her into the brig, satisfied when he heard a small crack.

Angelica smiled at the child. She cradled her as though she were her own, and wondered what to feed her. "Thorne!" she called. "What do mermaids eat?"

Jack sighed as he watched them take Marina away.

The baby held out her chubby hands.
Thorne hesistated to reply, he now knew that little thing was hungry. "Milk, and meat." He called back. The milk thing was true, both tasks would both be diffucult..as since normally the mother would have milk...Angelica did not.

"Milk from a cow? A goat? Do I need a special formula?" Angelica asked frantically. She knew this would irritate him, but she asked anyway. "And... what kind of meat?"

"Jack, why? Why can't you simply toss her into the brig? Is it that hard?"

Throne walked upstairs to Angelica's bedroom, "I wouldn't know what kind of milk. As a newborn they'd drink breast milk." He gave her a look once she asked the last question, "Surely, Angelica! After a mermaid tried to drag you underwater, during your quest for the fountain you know their diet." The baby touched Angelica's cross and giggled with delight.

"Yes. I know this mermaid." Jack replied smugly.

"Do you? I suppose you two fell in love, then?" Thorne laughed.

Angelica sneered. "She'll not eat a human, Thorne. Besides, you're the one who studied them."

Jack made a hand jesture that meant "a little."

Thorne grimanced, "Why are you rejecting her natural diet, Angelica? Surley you thought this threw!" The baby squealed loudly for attention.

Angelica kissed the baby's forehead. "If this child grows up under my wing, she shall eat like the rest of us do." She found a sash in her bag, and wrapped it around herself. She placed the child snugly between the sash and herself. She began to walk out the door to purchase milk and possibly meat. "Sir," she asked when she came to the market area, "could you point me to a dairy seller and a butcher?"

The child soon became tired and fell asleep on the way to the market.

The market manager looked around, "Down by dem docks, " He said. "'Careful, mermaids sometimes leap from the ocean and drag you down." Sure they did, they had those seaweeds...Angelica would know.
