Ophelia held back from saying anything that might annoy him. The voice from all that time ago spoke to her. "Before you proceed, there is something I have to show you." before Ophelia could say anything in return, her vision went black for a moment and when she gained her sight back, she was in a different part of the forest. Then again, the entire forest looked pretty much the same. "Where are we?" she asked as a stag's figure appeared next to her. "Are we still in the forest?"
The stag nodded, "We are. This is the same forest, only many generations back and before the many fires that destroyed it again and again." Ophelia looked confused, "We're back in time?" the stag shook his head and said, "Not really. We cannot interfere, only look. No one can see or hear us." Ophelia looked around, "Why are we here?" the stag began walking, "There is something about your family's past that you must understand before you continue." Ophelia was confused, but she followed.
The two walked for a really long time and eventually Ophelia began to get a little frustrated. "Where are you taking me?" the stag just continued walking. He answered without even looking at her, "Patience is important." after a few more moments he said, "I'm taking you to see the first Great Prince. The first deer in the world who decided to stop watching the herd slowly killed by Man and take matters into his own hands." The two passed a few bucks and does on the way and eventually the stag leading the way stopped.
Ophelia's jaw nearly dropped as she saw the deer in question. "Wait, that's a doe." The stag looked at her with a chuckle, "You look disappointed." Ophelia was still too shocked to say anything. The princess they were looking at was being chased by dogs, but after a few moments they all fled and one of them even lay dead on the ground. "No way!" Ophelia looked with astonishment, "Did you see those moves?!" she looked at the stag who led her there, "So this is one of my ancestors?"
The stag looked at Ophelia with a smile, "One of our ancestors. You see, I brought you here to show you that does have just the same amount of potential as bucks." Ophelia raised an eyebrow and said, "But, I already know that. So why do only male deer take the place from the previous prince?" the stag sighed and said, "That's not what I brought you here for, but maybe you should know this."
The vision shifted and they were now on the meadow. The stag said, "She had two sons. You see the difference between the father to the mother is that the mother's presence during fawn-hood is more necessary than the father's. One of her son managed to deal with spending most of his time with his father. He understood how to responsibility was important to his mother. The other one, however... He hated his mother..." Ophelia tried to understand how it was related.
The stag continued, "When that fawn got to your age, he wanted his mother to pay for what she did." Ophelia interrupted, "But she didn't do anything wrong." The stag nodded and said, "She did not, but he didn't understand how committed she was to the herd like his brother did. One day he poisoned her to death." Ophelia's jaw dropped again and the stag continued, "A real tragedy indeed... The father killed him for it. The son who was still alive decided to carry on in his mother's place. The few next generations of princes only had male fawns, so it kind of became a tradition that the son carries on."
Ophelia said nothing for a while. "I... Wow..." she looked at the stag who said, "Everything in the world has it's first time. Now it's time for Karus to finally get what's coming to him." he turned to leave, "You will know what to do when the time comes." he began walking when Ophelia called in his direction. "Wait, can I ask you one more thing?" he looked at her and she carried on, "What was the Great Princess' name?" The stag looked at her for a moment and said, "Ophelia." with that, the vision ended and Ophelia was back next to Karus' son. Everything was just the way it was when the vision started, as if the real world paused and waited for her vision to finish.
(( Wow, this was fun to write =O ))
