Survival of the fittest - AmyMarie and Shadowfax

Sam nodded with thanks as George told him they could stay there for the night. As Aimee approached he forced a smile as she asked him if he wanted to be alone.

"Ash isn't there anymore" Sam said with a sniff.

His words were very unlike him, but being around death so much he'd come to learn that when someone was gone, they were gone and though the body remained.. they weren't that person anymore.

"I've got some food in my bag, your welcome to share it with me tonight. I guess you'll be on your way tomorrow" Sam said, again expecting to be left behind.

(OOC: This is my last post for the night, all RPed out! xD Its been really good so far though!)

George and Aimee exchanged a relatively surprised look as the boy spoke.
"Hey now, weren't not going anywhere. Not without you. You're just a boy" George began, trying to explain. Aimee could see that Sam hadn't had any real friends since this had started though, and was used to people leaving him.
"You can stick with us" Aimee said, chipping in. George nodded in agreement. He noticed it was getting darker though.

"You ready to get back into the car?" he asked him, going behind Ashelin and linking his arms under her shoulders to start pulling her up. He did it with hesitation though, feeling some pity and guilt in his gut over the whole thing. He might as well put her in the boot now though, before the three of them got settled down for the night.

(OOC: Same, I have work in the morning so need sleeps. It's been fun! ^_^ I've got a nasty suprise for this lot in my next few posts ;D)

Sam smiled and felt so grateful to the two of them in that moment. Knowing he had someone to travel with now, his spirits rose slightly, though he was still devestated about losing Ashelin. He rushed to his backpack and pulled out a blanket before George dragged Ashelin to the boot. He stopped him in his tracks and looked up at the man with his big eyes.

"Don't put her in the boot, she wouldn't like that. Here, we can put her over on that verge and cover her with this" He said, holding up the blanket.

He looked at Ashelin for a moment. She looked so peaceful and the gun was linked in her hand still as Sam had linked it through her fingers. In a way he envied her looking so peaceful, but at the same time.. like most people he feared death.

George halted, listened to the boy and nodded in agreement with what he had to say.
"Yeah...alright then". He pulled the body as dignified as he could towards where Sam mentioned and lay her down gently. He took the blanket off Sam with a small smile and placed it over Ashelin, making sure it covered her up completely. "Rest in peace" he thought to himself, glancing at the body before turning back to the others.

He checked the time on his watch, glad he hadn't forgotten it. Half past seven. By the time they had eaten, it'd be late enough for some sleep. George walked back to his side of the car and got in. Aimee shot him a quick smile, and he returned it, much to her comfort. He started up the engine again, and without Sam in the car, pulled in towards the curb. He didn't want to be in the middle of the road. "Hop in then Sam, before you get cold".

Sam ate what supplies he had that evening and shared all his food with Aimee and George. He ate in silence, various thoughts running through his head as he replayed Ashelin's death over and over in his mind. When it got dark and George went to get the car, Sam stoof up and awaited his arrival. Sam nodded as George pulled the car over to the side of the road. He leapt into the back seat and was grateful for the shelter as a slight bitter wind was hanging around that evening.

He closed his eyes and attempted to sleep. After a while he managed to drift into a light sleep and though his dreams were not plesant, he slept all the same.

Four hours later when all was quiet, three shadows were making their way up the road towards the car. The had between them a single torch and all had guns. The men were the same from the garage and had walked up the road during the night in an attempt to find their attackers and raiders. When they saw the car on the side of the road, one of the men practically laughed his head off. He motioned to the other two to walk up the side of the car, whilst he himself went to the boot.

They walked with their guns raised and their wits sharp. Once level with the car one of the men caught sight of Aimee and he smirked. His eyes then lingered on Sam and finally, George the boy who had killed their old leader.

"Get the girl, and the boy.. This one.. I'll have him confess killing Brad and then i'll put a bullet in his head"

The men nodded and yanked the doors open. One grabbed Aimee by the wrist and dragged her out onto the floor and the other grabbed hold of Sam by the front of the coat and pulled him from the vehicle. Their new leader held the end of his rifle to George's cheek and awaited him to awaken.

Aimee had been sleeping quite soundly. She didn't snore, but she breathed quite heavily during her sleep. It didn't tend to bother anyone. She was a mover though, and regularly swapped sides during sleep which often gave her the worst bed hair.

She was mid turn when she found herself on the floor. Aimee groaned, thinking she had fell initially. Then she noticed the hand around her wrist. Her eyes widened and they traveled up to the owner of the hand.
"G-George!" she half screamed, half croaked.

Her brother awoke, startled. He lent forward sharply,
"Aim-", he stopped. There was a gun pointed straight at him, pressing into his cheek. He was lost for words, until he glanced at his sister again. "Let go of her" he said, voice cracking. He was scared, more so for her than himself.

The man laughed as George awoke, startled by the sudden turn around from sleeping soundly to being held at gun point. The man holding Aimee tightened his grip on her arm threateningly and then drew her to her feet as she called for George.

"Shut your mouth or i'll put this through your head!" He said, gesturing to the handgun in his other hand.

Sam too was shocked by their appearance. He tried to kick the man that was holding him, but to no avail. The boy wriggled, tried to hit, bite, scratch and kick the man repeatedly, but in the end he merely wore himself out and looked over hopelessly at Aimee and George.

"See, you stole from us mate so we will take your sister and friend here.. oh, and all your supplies. I'd let you live..but... you've killed one of ours so I plan to return the favour" He said looking George dead in the eye. There was a tone of lack of intelligence to the man as he spoke. The man then cracked the gun and pressed it into George's cheek a little more. "Admit it, you killed my brother back at the petrol station! You should be grateful I don't kill your sister here in front of you! CONFESS!!!"

Aimee winced, she had never known someone to have such a tight grip before. The fact he could literally pull her up with one arm made her feel worse. She gave George a terrified look, and then a worried one to Sam. George was figuring out what to say, and trying not to look too scared. Not because he would seem weak, because his sister would freak out.

He gulped, and began to speak after the man's first sentence.
"Please, leave my sister and that boy there be. They've done nothing wrong-" he was silenced by the further push of the gun. "Look, I didn't know he was going to die. It was out of sheer self defense. I'm sorry, really I am". It was a genuine apology. He had killed the man's brother and George himself wasn't over it. He felt guilty to a certain degree, but if he had died Aimee would of been alone. He couldn't have that happen.

The man smirked as George spoke. His apology indeed was genuine, but the man was still blinded by grief and though his brother wasn't a nice person he was still bound by blood and to lose him hurt. The other man held Aimee up and laughed under his breath. He leant forward and whispered to her.

"He's going to kill your brother, and your going to watch" He said with a menacing laugh.

"No!" Sam yelled, hearing the man speak.

The man holding Sam hit the child in the stomach and let him collapse. His punch was so strong it had knocked the wind out of the young boy and he collapsed on the floor breathing heavily. The man grabbed Sam by the back of the rucksack again and heaved him to his feet.

"Be quiet, or you'll be next" The man growled.

Sam looked over at Aimee, teriffied at how powerless he was in this situation. The man before George stepped back, but the gun in his hands remained raised.

"Get out the car. Now" He motioned to the young man he intended to shoot.

Aimee felt a few shivers run down her spine as the man spoke, and she felt tears come to her eyes. Unable to wipe the stragglers, she stood there, feeling hopeless. She took a moment to look at Sam, and just managed to see the punch. She breathed in sharply, almost feeling his pain. Her brother had began to stand up. George's trembling hand reached for the side of the car for support, and he heaved himself out.

He stepped a couple of inches away from the car and looked at his soon to be executioner.
"P-Please, don't hurt her" he pleaded, "Or him". There was nothing he could do now, not with a gun pointing at him. He turned to Aimee and mouthed "I love you". At this gesture, Aimee began to sob.
"No" she croaked, "No, don't kill him, please, anything but that". She began to struggle against the hand that held her then. "Don't take him away from me, he's the o-only family I have".
