Kodi looked at her. He didn't believe that she would actually do it. "Then why haven't you done it already?"

Annabeth said, "Because I..." She looked away, "I like you."

Kodi continued to look at her, "And your father?"

Annabeth said, "If he finds out about this he would make sure I would never...that I would feel much pain. He will never approve of this. And he will never stop hunting the wolf-dog."

Kodi then fell silent. He felt something at the end of his stomach whenever he looked at Annabeth and realised that he returned at least some of her feelings. But he didn't know what they could do.

She looked at him, "Go on. Go back to your dog friend. Go on and love her. I say this because it will never work out between us. I will let you live but my father's minions will not if they know you are a friend of the wolf-dog."

Kodi looked at her and was silent for a few moments, but then he said, "I... can't."

The wolf looked confused, "Can't what?"

Kodi then said it, "I... I also like you>" he then fell silent and became nervous again.

The wolf said, "Look Kodi..." she stopped as she savored the name on her lips, "it will not work out. I think you would rather be alive than being tortured by my father."
