Aimee urged the boy on, hoping he'd be as quick as possible. She watched the car begin to roll with utter despair, no car meant no protection. She managed to catch the boy as he fell, both ending up on the ground rather than crouching or standing. Two backpacks fell beside them both as well, as lucky as that was, they were both out in the open. Bullets started flying around them, narrowly missing the pair. Aimee instinctively had Sam behind her, as if she was his cover. She hardly knew the boy yet she was his sheild.
George stopped attempting to get the car going to look at the bullet hole in the front of the car, he stopped for too long. Another bullet hit the wing mirror. "Right, that's it!" he shouted, hoping the car would move. With one final turn of the key, the car came to life. He didn't take the time to feel relieved. He went into reverse and spun the car around, driving up alongside his sister and Sam. Now with sufficient protection, Aimee shot straight up. She flung the car door open. First, she threw in the backpacks, and then she motioned for Sam to get in. Once the boy had shifted, she climbed into the car as well, standing up in the back seat area.
George didn't wait for them to be seated. He sped off down the road, luckily in the direction he was going in anyway. Aimee slid through the gap between the front seats and into the front passenger one. The sound of gun-shots were beginning to grow faint, but George had his hands on the wheel, gripping it tight, and his foot on the pedal. Aimee could almost see the sweat rolling off him.
