Katherine uncomfortably felt the hard squeeze of Austin's smooth hands of the artist's work, but wiggled her way out, making it unnoticable for the crowd. She let out a stare and regained her smile at the crowd. She looked over directly at the president's old eyes who seemed to be looking at hers like a laser. SHe still kept the look and stared at him until the chariot turned around and moved away. There were still slow whispers from the crowd of sayings such as,"Who is that?""Wow!""No way!"and more. Katherine took off the pins and laid out her hair. Jacel was there in his greyish bluish suit and gave Katherine a hug and Austin a bump.

"Fabulous Fabulous Fabulous,"Binta said.

Liana did a little squeal,"Oh we are the spotlight!"

Jacel just smiled,"So brave."

Katherine smiled back and turned around and stopped her scanning until she found a boy looking at her. He was muscular and well built. He had no trace of reluctance or worry showing in his expression, but full confidence. He had light brown hair and was smiling at her. Jacel was staring at him as well until he decided to go upstairs. The kitchen was set up in front of them with platters of food stacked on top of each other and the chandeliers hanging so elegantly in the sky.

"Do you know who they were?"Jacel said.

Katherine shook her head,but knew the answer.

"That was Spencer Draculus, a volunteer from District 11. He joined an elite academy of training since he was 7,"Jacel said burying his head into his food.

"I thought that those academies were only in District 1."

"He moved, along with his family,"Jacel said and ended the talk about his training as though it might bring up the fear in both their voices.

Binta noticed this as he took a chair and joined in with the conversation unaware of Jacel's short ending.

"Well it seems that that Spencer has a major crush on you,"Binta said.

Austin paused eating and raised his eyebrows. Well aware that all eyes were on him, he continued eating, rethinking about that Spencer liking Katherine. He was pretty good looking. He mumbled across the thoughts in his head about Spencer and Katherine and forced himself to smile and pretended to act as if though he had a burp coming. Katherine also seemed to pause at the words,Spencer was the type of guy that the girls would come rushing at, but he had more thoughts on mind than a crush on her, but she couldn't hide the fact that she had a desire to like him. She looked over at Jacel to reply to Binta, not knowing what to say. Jacel wiped his upper teeth his his tongue and rubbed his hands with a napkin.

"Oh well, he wouldn't like her enough that he wouldn't kill her, now would he now Binta?"Jacel asked.

There was a long moment of pausing, and Katherine was the first to leave, unaware that there were two boys following her:Jacel and Austin.

Austin Grey

I didn't like the idea of another boy eyeing my love, unless it meant that this other boy would do whatever he could to save Katherine. But I highly doubted that. After Binta asked the question, Katherine just got up and walked away. I followed her, and Jacel wasn't too far behind. I wanted to know some things. I didn't know Jacel's reason for coming along, but I didn't object against it.

"Katherine, wait up!" I called, reaching out for her arm.

Amelia Fredrick

I got off of the chariot with Troy. Our outfits had gone off midway, but I didn't care. It had been on long enough for the crowd to have a lasting impression.

"That was amazing!" Wallace said.

"One of a kind!" Sandra, Troy's stylist said.

"Where did you get the idea for their outfits to have lightning?" Poppy asked.

"Well, Amanda originally came from District 5, which serves in power, and Troy came from District 1, so I figured lightning would do it, as it was both glamorous and dealt with electricity," Wallace explained.

"Genius!" Poppy exclaimed.

"Did you see the District 1 tributes? They're the new Peeta and Katniss for these Games. I just hope nothing bad comes out of that," Eric said.

"Oh, come on, Eric! We can't worry about that. Besides, they're not even ours. If their team wants to go that route, then let them," Poppy said. Yes, let them. I will try killing them before anything bad happens. No need for another rebellion this soon, I thought.

Troy Waterfern:
Troy looked up at the conversation and followed his eyes toward the two tributes of District 1.[i]They might have a change of winning[i],he thought,but shook the thought out of his head and looked at Amelia. He knew they both were thinking the same thing,if they wanted to win, they had to avoid District 1,not because they were good in combat although he heard rumors of Katherine's excellent aim,but because they were making quite an appearance. He looked at his costume, they made a good impression if they lightning just hadn't died out. He remembered the flames shooting out of Katherine and Austin's costume, he stood in awe. He smiled at Amelia who knew he was deep in thought.

"You were great out there even though you probably couldn't see it,"he slipped out.

She frowned slightly before he quickly made up.

"Not-like that Amelia, you were cool,"he said weakly.

He knew he had to be sensitive towards Amelia who couldn't take things like he did, he grabbed her hands and smiled.

Katherine felt the light tug of her wrist and turned around to see Austin and looked behind him to see the shadow of Jacel who quickly went behind the door frame waiting for her conversation with Austin to be dealt with. She looked from Austin to his firm grip on her arm. She never expected him to be quite talking to her,or more than that. She felt the tugs of his grips many times and the uncomfortable squeezes he gave her in which she gave him a stern look back.

"Oh hey it's just you,"she muttered lightly.

She went into her room and took a seat on the velvet cushion and flipped her brown hair out of the way as she sat to listen why Austin was here.

"So,you want to say something?"she asked,trying not to be rude in which she always failed at.

He nodded slowly.

Austin Grey

I nodded, but wasn't sure whether to justblurt out what I wanted to say. Then I remembered the garden Patricia showed me before the parade. "It's seems a littl stuffy in here. Maybe we should get some fresh air," I suggested. Katherine noddded, and I led her up to the gardenhouse. I opened the door and breathed in the fresh air. The wind made it hard for anyone to hear us, but wasn't loud enough to block out my voice if I just talked to Katherine. I decided to get straight to the point. "Why won't you talk to me? You haven't even looked at me very much. Is something troubling you? Kat, I want to know. I promise I won't tell anyone else." I say.

Amelia Fredrick

"I know what you meant," I tell Troy. "I just don't like for people to refer to my blindness is all. A lot of the time, people see I'm blind, and think I'm weak, and I'm just tired of that."

"Well, how about we go watch the replays of the parade?" Poppy suggests. Even though I can't see anything, I still listen to it. The announcers, Ceasar Flickerman and Claudius Templesmith, are surprised to see the parade go backwards. They give their own opinions about each district's outfit, sounding shocked at my spectacular outfit, saying how well the lightning fit my first district, District 5. The parade goes on, and for some odd reason, I tune out during District 6, until Poppy comments about a girl named Rosalinda.

"Rosalinda? What district is she in?" I queried.

"5," Eric answers. "She looks a lot like you, but instead of opaque eyes, she has dark blue ones. You might be better off allying with her." I thought about this proposition, and smiled a little bit. It wouldn't be too bad to have a tribute ally, especially one from my home district.

Troy Waterfern:

Troy grinned at their entrance and smiled at Wallace as they were about to turn off the T.V until District 1 made their entrance. He looked back to see Wallace's weak expression, what was lightning compared to lightning and rose petals? He patted Wallace on the back trying to cheer him up.

"You did great,we could do better,"he reassured Wallace,and mostly himself.

He knew Amelia wasn't worried about the entrance since she couldn't see it but she slowly flinched at Caesar's extreme compliments and biased remarks.

"That Caesar is just representing the Capitol nobody else,"he said replying to Amelia's expression then realizing they had to impress the Capitol.
He looked at everyone's almost depressed faces and took one last glance at Katherine. He looked into her brave and determined hazel eyes and suddenly his fingers accidentally pressed the zoom button and his fingers went to a small pin in her sleeve carefully hidden. It was a symbol of a bow and Poppy gasped putting her hands to her curly wig.

He remembered Amelia's comments about killing her first to end a rising rebellion. He sensed something about that Katherine(we could save the rebellion for book 2, of the start of it), but he slowly shook his head.

"I don't know why you'd think about ending her, don't you want change, she can bring us that. There is something about her, look at the way she looked at President Snow,"Troy blurted out.

"Don't think about it like that, only one gets out,but I have to admit, she did have some gut to stare at President Snow like that,"Wallace muttered.

Poppy gasped and closed the curtains and grimaced as if she was waiting a disaster to strike.

"No talk of the rebellion,focus on the games!"Poppy exclaimed.

Troy let out a laugh to calm his nerves,"Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry,"he said as he went to his room and patted Amelia's arm.

Then"What's the point?"Katherine replied to his surprise.

She looked at him to no expression,but bent her elbows and looked around.She wasn't used to gardens,she remembered spelling the wet and dry air of the forest and instead smelled the artificial sweetness of the floral arrangements.

"One of us is going to end up killing each other Austin, I just don't want each other to get--close enough to each other that maybe if one of us gets out alive, you won't regret it...or maybe, some of us might as well commit suicide during the games,"she said shortly not eyeing anyone in particular.

She could feel him thinking exactly what she was,but instead he nodded. She didn't want to pressure him anymore and left the garden and slumped over at the couch at her room and turned on the big T.V on the corner of the wall. She half curled up and pressed the remote flatly listening to the replays of the Tribute Parade trying not to feel guilty of ditching Austin,but in a way she wasn't. She looked over at Caesar Flickerman, the T.V show host who she heard make tremendous compliments and biased remark on their entrance in the tribute parade. Jacel came into her room eyeing the T.v and holding a glass of alcohol on the other hand.

"It was Austin a few minutes ago and now it's you,"Katherine said knowing she wasn't trying to be rude,but felt the own harshness of her tone vibrating through the room.

Surprisingly,he smiled.

"Hope I'm not bothering you then,"he replied as he slouched over at the couch and began listening to the T.V.

"The tribute parade,"she said shortly before she rewinded towards the beginning.

She saw the tributes pass by and choked up over the blind girl, a blind girl. She heard Caesar's remarks about hers as well,but knew the special likingness that he had towards Katherine and Austin. They came last and her heart did a little stop,she felt amazed by her own appearance,but tried to suppress it.

"And now comes District 1 who is representing lux-What is that Claudius?"he said flashing his dazzling smiled towards Claudius who was moving his weight onto the chair and gazed upon the last chariot.

"District 1, Katherine Keene and Austin Grey,"he said still eyeing the two.

Then the flames starting shooting out and the roses blew in as they held hands firmly and shot it through the air.

"Wow!The girl on fire!Did you just see that?I love it!Don't you?I think that I'm in love!The showstoppers,District 1 everyone!THE GIRL ON FIRE!"Caesar Flickerman said smiling again this time,towards Katherine instead of the crowd.

"That was brilliant,"Jacel said through a sip of his drink.

"Thanks, I'm glad,"she muttered quietly.

"Your the most liked tribute in the game so far,especially by that Caesar, the crowd seems to be in love with you, that's good. That justs makes your chances of winning the game higher,"Jacel said sternly.

"Then what about Austin?He has the same chance doesn't he. He is amazing too, you should see him. He-he has a chance of winning the games too right?"Katherine immediately replied.

"Katherine listen-"

"Answer me, does he?"Katherine asked.

She wanted to protect Austin the way she wanted to protect everyone. She couldn't do it, she was going to have to kill a person. She remembered Penny,she had to be there for her. All they want is a show, a show, she can give them one,its just a show.

"He can build up his image, and then maybe-maybe he can,"Jacel replied honestly.

"We can both get out of the game, together,"Katherine said towards Jacel even though she doubted it.

"You saw what happened last time, the Capitol almost went out of power, they won't make the same mistake again,"Jacel said to her.

"There has to be something Jacel, you can't let him-go,"she said.

"Amusing,"he said.

"What is?"she asked.

"just 45 minutes ago, Austin came in my room begging me to save you and protect you and now you come in,"he replied.

Katherine stood there in shock you. She also knew deep down he needed it more than her even with his strength and charm that the Capitol would sooner or later respond to.

"It's only one of us,"Katherine said getting up and walking in a pace like walk around the couch.

"Katherine,take time to think about it. Austin wants to protect you,the Capitol people love you,and I also heard your good with the bow,"he finished.

Her heart thumped,did the capitol know about her illegal hunting.

"Who told you that?"

"Rumors,"he said,smiling a little.

She looked over the doorway and the shadow of Austin as he was coming closer to her room. She quickly sat next to Jacel on the couch with her hand quickly going towards the remote.

"We should go...train,"she said quickly to Jacel who seemed to know what she was thinking.

He nodded and patted Austin on the back and smiled.

Amelia Fredrick

I felt the gesture and wondered if maybe Troy wanted to talk to me, but I decided against it and continued listening to the announcers. "What performance was your favorite?" Claudius asked Caesar.

"I personally liked District 1's fire performance, but District 12 was a close second," Caesar answered. I'll show them second best[i], I vowed. [i]We second placers will wow them beyond comparison with any other district.

Austin Grey

I felt disappointed when Katherine ran off like that, but I knew she was right. Sooner or later, we'd be in the Hunger Games, and in order to win, one of us would have to kill the other. No exceptions. Ever since Katniss and Peeta, the Capitol has not let anyone try to go with the 'two can survive' rule, as it always caused problems.

I walked downstairs and heard Jacel talking to Katherine about me. I tried to silently listen, but when I got close enough, Katherine stopped, noticing that someone was trying to eavesdrop. That girl was good, I had to admit. I heard her mention something about training. But training wasn't until tomorrow, unless we were privately training, like most Careers. I shook my head, but I knew Katherine's motives. To protect whomever she wanted to protect, she would have to learn how to fight. And good.

Katherine Keene:

She was about to suggest training when she abruptly stopped to look at the dark circles around his eyes.

"We'll train tomorrow, " she said.

Austin nodded looking relieved and slowly trotted to his own room looking back.

"You better get that aim correctly,"Jacel said jokingly.

Katherine let out a laugh as they went to the dining table where Liana was waiting. Austin seemed to notice and exited out of his own room and joined them.

"Oh there you are!I ordered extra dessert for this occasion,"she said excitedly.

"Occasion..?"Katherine said curiously helping herself to some food.

"Meeting,"she corrected herself

"Tomorrow each of you will be...evaluated in your training. Katherine,they'll give you a bow, and Austin show them your strength. Try not to piss them off Katherine,"he added, flashing his teeth at her.

"Oh, why do you think that,"Katherine flashed back.

"Just cause..."

"i'll try, no promises made yet,"she finished with a laugh.

Austin Grey

"Sure thing, Jacel," I answered. I still thought it was weird how our strengths, costumes, and everything else were the same as Katniss and Peeta. I just hoped the Capitol wouldn't kill us because of it.

Rosalinda Ross

Santino and I were sitting at the table, with Jane, our escort, and John, our mentor, across from us.

"So, as spectacular as your training has been so far, you need to really step up tomorrow. As you two probably know, tomorrow is the private training sessions. You'll want to wow the Gamemakers. The higher your score, the more sponsors you'll get," John explained. I nodded in understanding. Sponsors were somewhat your lifeline during the Games, like if you were going to die of hunger, they could send you some food, if they were impressed by your performance. I thought deeply about what I could do, and decided on the one thing I was good at: knife-throwing.

(Alright. You don't have to do anything for D. 5, I just didn't know what else to put for Austin, and Amelia's not too important right now, so Rosalinda was my next option. By the way, I saw you called Austin Peeta, before you changed it. As soon as I realized the mistake, I laughed. Really brightened up my evening.)
