"Listen to your father, sweetie." said Eve with a smile. "When others ruin your hunt then they're the ones to blame, not you." Her smile faded when Winston once again mentioned the other part of the problem, the Eastern wolves, this time saying that he wanted to get an explanation for the leader of the Eastern Pack. "You do that, honey." Whether it was Tony who had ordered his wolves to ruin the hunt and whether they had done it behind his back as a result of impatience, the Eastern Pack's leader obviously had some explaining to do.

She normally didn't join her mate whenever one of the wolves in the pack had something to report to him, but something in Hutch's tone suggested that it was more than just a regular message so she followed him outside. Regardless of that, she was quite shocked to hear what Hutch had to say and to see the gashes on Candu's side. She quickly walked over to the Beta wolf to examine him, ignoring his remarks about how it was nothing and about how he was perfectly fine. "Quickly," she said, looking at the two wolves who were helping him keep his balance. "Bring him into the den. Winston, honey, whoever did this, let's rip his tail off and shove it down his throat."

As much as Kate wanted to stay inside the den to make sure that Candu was alright and in order to ask him how it had all happened, she knew how her mother could be while concentrating on something, especially taking care of an injured wolf. So, ignoring all feelings of concern and curiosity, she walked outside in order to give her mother room to work. Her attention was soon drawn by a noise coming from below, which she soon identified as Humphrey and his gang.

From her high point of view she was able to see the berries the Omegas were holding behind their backs, so it didn't take her too long to realize just what Humphrey and his friends were up to. She had obviously been a little sarcastic when she told him to offer berries to the pack, so it was quite surprising (as well as amusing) to find out that he was actually going ahead and doing just that.

"Kate?" The newly trained Alpha looked over her shoulder and saw her sister approaching her. "I don't know if it's of any, um, consolation," continued the white furred Omega in her usually quiet voice, "but I also think that you're not to be blamed for the results of today's hunt..."

Seeing that Lilly was also concerned about her, Kate couldn't help but smile at her sister. "I know, Lilly. Thanks."

Lilly couldn't help but become curious and follow her sister's gaze, which was now once again directed towards Humphrey and his friends. From the looks of it, the wolves that were surrounding the Omegas weren't too pleased. "What is he up to this time?" Humphrey and his gang were quite known for their shenanigans, but there was a pretty big chance that they had just been unfortunate enough to get on the nerves of a few hungry Alphas.

"He's trying to convince them to have berries for dinner." said Kate, chuckling at how silly the idea sounded.

"Um, why?" Being Winston's daughter, Lilly has never been mistreated like most Omegas often have, but even she knew what a stupid and even dangerous idea Humphrey's was.

"Don't take my word for it," said Kate, "but I think it's because I told him to. I didn't really mean it, though..."

"Oh, I see..." said Lilly, chuckling.

Kate looked at her sister with a raised eyebrow. "What's funny?" she asked.

"Nothing." said Lilly with a smile, giggling and walking away.

Winston stared at Eve in disbelief at her tone. Even as her mate, he still wasn't used to just how casually she can go ahead and make such a severe threat. The Alpha finally regained his senses when she left his view into the den, followed by Candu and the wolves helping him. Winston moved closer to Hutch. "Get our alphas on alert," he warned.

"Already done sir."

Sure enough, as Winston looked around, he saw alphas all around the valley in key positions watching out for any foul play by the Easterns. "Good." He was about to dismiss the beta when he though of something that he needed to do. Making sure that only Hutch can hear, he added, "Get in contact with an eastern wolf. Make sure that I will be able to talk to Tony about this tonight. Have him meet me at the border creek, at midnight."

Humphrey, behind his grin, wasn't sure what he was going to do now that he tossed the only good thing he had available. Luckily for the omegas, the wolves ran off, eager for some squirrel meat, and Humphrey knew a good situation when he saw one. "Right guys, let's get out of here!" As one, his gang followed him as they fled the scene of the "crime", not eager to get too close to any other hungry wolves.

When they were finally far away enough, Humphrey slowed down and stopped. "Oh man, was that awesome or what?" he asked eagerly, getting somewhat of a kick out of the close call. Mooch, not a good runner, didn't seem to agree with him. "Did you see those guys? They were just slobbering all over the ground!" He smirked triumphantly. "Told you those berries would come in handy. Alright, not the berries themselves, but those squirrels would not have followed us if we hadn't taken those."

Still, Humphrey knew what his friends were thinking. "Now before any of you say 'I told you so', keep this in mind: now we have several hungry wolves who are busy chasing after dinner. They will either get a meal, or will be too tired to care that they're hungry. Genius or what?"

Meanwhile, way over in the Eastern Pack's territory, the situation was much less stable. Caribou sightings have been becoming significantly less and less common within the pack's territory, and even if they did get lucky enough to run into any caribou it wasn't enough to suffice for a proper meal for an entire pack (if they even managed to hunt it down, that is). As a result of that, the pack was becoming more and more impatient. Some of them were actually starting to act like it was Tony's fault that there were no longer any caribou left in the east, something which he wasn't in the mood for at all. And, as the icing on the cake, he also had a disk in his back that kept cracking and driving him crazy.

He knew that it wouldn't take long before the lack of food would start to take a toll on his pack's health. That, added to the mental effect it was already having on most of them, was going to make catching that one caribou that showed up once in a few days even harder. The Eastern Pack's leader turned around as he heard someone entered his den. "What is it?" he asked, seeing that it wasn't Garth. Deep inside he kept hoping that the wolf wasn't there to tell him about something like another Alpha trying to assault a poor Omega who was only trying to stop the entire pack from having each other for dinner, because he was getting quite tired of those incidents.

Mooch, who has never been a very good runner, was obviously the one who was the least happy with Humphrey's plan out of all of them. Running away from angry Alphas had to be his least favorite way of passing the time. Hell, even eating berries sounded more appealing than something which has always been destined to result in bruises. "Yeah, several." said the chubby Omega, who was still out of breath. "What about the rest of 'em?" he asked, referring to the rest of the pack, "There's no way I'm doing that again; we don't have the squirrels anymore!" He wasn't too concerned about the squirrels' well being. They could easily climb a tree or something else of the sort.

The eastern wolf noticed the impatience in Tony's voice. It was hardly surprising considering how much the pack leader had to deal with. "Sir, I just got word from the western pack. Winston wants to meet with you and discuss something with you, sir. At the creek between our territories, midnight tonight." The wolf looked at his pack leader, thinking if he should add what he had on his mind as well.

Normally, it would be considered stepping out of line, but Tony, while mostly old fashioned and one to stick to the pack customs, was not unknown to do things otherwise if they benefited the pack. Deciding that it would be worse to keep his mouth shut, the wolf added, "Tony, sir, I was just thinking... there's hardly any caribou left in our territory. The last thing we need are hostilities with the western pack when we need to be focusing our efforts on making sure that no one starves." He lowered his head when Tony looked at him. "Sorry, sir... I shouldn't have said that." Perhaps he did go too far with this, but he knew that a war with the west in their current situation would destroy the pack.

Humphrey chuckled and playfully punched Mooch in the shoulder. "Aww, come on, big guy! We don't have to worry about the others. I'm telling you, those berries were a great idea!" However, as he said this, he felt his insides churn. He didn't know if it was because of the mad dash away from the wolves or what, but Humphrey jumped behind a bush just in time to throw up was used to be his lunch all over the ground. He stared at what came out of him and wasn't surprised to see the purple remains of the very thing which he just claimed would solve the pack's hunger problem. Blah. I hate berries.

Letting out a small groan, he emerged back from the bush, trying to look like nothing had happened. His friends were not falling for his grin, and worst of all, Mooch was looking especially smug about it. Sitting down next to them, Humphrey raised a paw to make sure that they understood that he had something very important to say:

"Shut up. I don't want to hear about it."

At this, the others couldn't hold it in anymore, and burst out laughing, leaving Humphrey feeling very foolish, but also letting out a few chuckles, because he too found the humor in it.

When his fellow omegas quit laughing at his expense, Humphrey decided that he had enough adventures for one day. "Right, well, I think I'm gonna retire for tonight. Hey, anyone up for some log-boarding tomorrow?" Knowing that they couldn't resist the rush of a great log-boarding ride, Humphrey didn't bother to wait for their answers. He got up and began to make his way to the small den that he called home. "Right, see you guys tomorrow. Usual time, the big hill!"

Tony couldn't help but get the urge to roll his eyes at the mention of Winston wanting to talk about something, although the wolf couldn't see it because Tony had his back turned on him. Something was telling him that Winston was going to mention the Western Pack's hunt earlier that day rather than discuss an actual solution to the problem. The Western Pack's leader did make one suggestion that seemed very reasonable, but that was a while ago and time kept marching on without anything happening and without the idea even being brought up again. The longer the Eastern Pack had to wait, the more impatient and disobedient its members became.

Tony slowly turned around to fully face the wolf once the latter was done saying what he had in mind. He could tell that the messenger was well aware that he had just crossed the line by the way his head was lowered, although it had been quite noticeable in his tone as well. "I wish some of your fellow pack members also understood it that way." he said after a short silence, slowly walking towards the wolf. "Or that they had your patience, at least. Unfortunately, things tend to get out of balance when the lack of food starts to get to everybody." Coming to a stop, he looked the Beta in the eyes for a short moment before resuming his walk and heading outside. Time was running out, and this time he was going to make sure that Winston understood that.

After finally calming down from their laughing fit, Humphrey's friends looked at one another silently, as if wanting to see what each of them was thinking about their friend's suggestion. "Alright, we'll see you there!" said Salty eventually. "Maybe we can figure out how to solve the problem with the breaks! Oh, and make sure not to eat any berries this time!" They once again burst into laughter as they imagined Humphrey throwing up while the log was maneuvering in the air. That should be a rather colorful and amusing thing to watch.

Humphrey was now getting somewhat annoyed at his friend's endless fun at his misery. "Yeah, yeah, guys. Knock it off!" Instead of stopping, they only laughed harder, so he left them where they were, head down with extreme embarrassment. He knew that they would all forget about it by tomorrow morning, or at least, not make it into such a big deal, but for right now, what Humphrey really needed was to get into his den and get some sleep. Something that will also help his still queezy stomach.

It wasn't a long walk to his home, and the omega barely reached it before he allowed himself to collapse on the ground and began to snore. Today was quite a long and hard day, especially for an omega like him. It wasn't every day that he had to stop a fight between two packs only to have to tame one right afterwards. Humphrey drifted off to sleep, dreaming of great slopes to log-board down with his friends.

Winston looked up at the sky, studying the position of the moon and stars. It was time. Carefully, he made sure that no one was following him as he made his way down to the creek that determined where his pack's territory ended, and where that of the eastern pack started.

Even while making sure that no one knew where he was, Winston made his way to the meeting point quickly. He got to the creek, but didn't see the eastern pack leader anywhere. If Tony had got his message, then Winston shouldn't have to wait for too long. In fact, yes, there. Winston broke into a wide grin.

"Tony! Looking good!"

Kate was just about to fall asleep when the sound of her father leaving the den sprang her back into full awareness. Usually one would find her asleep at that time of night, but the events of the day were making it difficult for her to fall asleep. By the time the newly trained Alpha had slowly made her way out of the den Winston was already some distance away. She had no idea where he was going, but what had happened during the hunt earlier made her doubt that having him go off on his own in the middle of the night was a safe idea.

Normally she wouldn't follow her father like that, but this time it wasn't the same. This time her father was going off on his own in the middle of the night rather than during daytime, something which she considered to be extra dangerous because of the tension between the two packs. So she decided to follow him, just to be on the safe side. He wouldn't even have to know that she has gone out of the den to begin with. Stalking her father reminded her of when she had used to sneak up on him as a puppy, only that now she was a fully trained Alpha and, therefore, much more better at being stealthy.

Her worry ( as well as curiosity) only rose when she saw her father approach the border between the Western Pack's territory and the Eastern Pack's territory. However the Western Pack's leader soon stopped and waited so she did the same, staying hidden behind a few bushes. Kate was even more surprised when she saw Tony, the Eastern Pack's leader. The last time she had seen him was before going to Alpha School, back when the Western and Eastern Packs had been on much friendlier terms. From the way her father greeted his Eastern counterpart it was almost tempting to believe that there has never been any grudge between the two packs to begin with.

"My back feels like wood!" said the latter with the same amount of amiability in his tone as he jumped over the small river that marked the border, wincing with discomfort as he did. "I have some disk that doesn't stop cracking... It's driving me crazy!"

By then Kate felt rather reassured that there was nothing to worry about and that she could go back to the den. After all, as unstable as the situation between the two packs was, she knew that neither one of them would ever pull off something as low as luring and ambushing the latter by inviting him to a conversation. However, she couldn't help but stay where she was and listen.

Winston slowly approached the Eastern Pack leader, eyeing him carefully to make sure that Tony wasn't planning anything stupid. Normally, he got along with Ton fairly well, but after today's hunt, he couldn't be so sure. "Tony! Looking good!" He slowly paced around the other wolf, who mirrored Winston's movements. "You're one crazy wolf, Tony! Playing games like that during out hunt."

The western wolf didn't know whether or not he can trust the other wolf. Tony claimed that he wanted peace between the two packs, but today's stunt that ruined the hunt achieved nothing but increasing the tension that so far was held back by an uneasy truth. But if the eastern pack will continue to sabotage the western hunts, it won't be long until the tension will become to great and a war will break out.

Knowing that a war will decimate both packs and will do no good, Winston had to make sure that tonight, he will get Tony to make sure that no more fancy stunts will be played by the eastern pack. While Winston had very good control over his pack, he couldn't guarantee that they will listen to him if another hunt will be interrupted and the hunger problem increased. Winston doubted that even the omegas will be able to keep the peace for much longer.

The last time Tony had seen Winston was about two weeks back, when the Eastern Pack's problem with finding caribou had first risen. That was when Winston had told Tony that he had a solution to the problem, but now was the first time he has heard from the Western Pack's leader since then. "Well what can I do?" asked the Eastern Pack's Leader in a somewhat jolly yet sarcastic tone, "I've got this disk that doesn't stop cracking. It started about... two weeks ago, I would say."

"Do you know what else happened about two weeks ago?" asked Tony after a short silence as he continued to circle Winston, "I told you that there were no Caribou left in the east. It's been two weeks since then, Winston! Two weeks during which all of us have barely eaten! You gave the big speech saying that your daughter, Kate, and my son, Garth, would marry to unite the packs and solve this in a diplomatic way! And yet time keeps marching on without anything happening!"

"Do you really think I don't know what the interference in your hunt today might have led to? Can you really blame them for growing impatient because they're tired of waiting for you?" Realizing that he has been raising his voice, Tony paused for a moment and calmed down. "I've lived a long life and I've seen a few things, Winston. I've experienced hunger before. My pack, unlike me, is experiencing it for the first time. It's becoming harder and harder to keep them under control and I don't blame them one bit."

"There isn't much time left for a diplomatic solution. Think of the children, Winston. Not a single member of my pack is going to let their puppies starve and neither am I. It's up to you. If you leave us no choice..." He walked closer to Winston and looked him dead in the eye, "What's taking you so long? Garth knows his responsibility. Does Kate?"

Sorry I haven't been posting much recently. I know you wanted to get more posts done before I got recruited (as did I), but it didn't really work out. I'm not as good an RP partner as I was back when I was more into it. BTW, as for the days I won't be at home, if I do find time to post I'll have to make my posts short. Or would you rather have me post only when I'm home? Also, you may have noticed that I changed / added to Tony's dialog quite a bit...

Winston let out a frustrated sigh. He was hoping that he could convince Tony of keeping control of his pack, but it didn't look like the Eastern leader was willing to take this stance. Still, Winston had to try. "So your pack is hungry, Tony? You know who else is hungry? My pack. And unlike yours, we know who is responsible for our predicament. Do you know how many of my wolves have come to me, as asking for eastern blood?"

He hoped that this would cause Tony to back down, but the Eastern wolf wouldn't back down. What made it worse was when Tony asked him the one question that Winston hoped he wouldn't bring up. Kate had only finished Alpha training, and the last thing he wanted to do to her was to place the burden of a pre-arranged marriage on her just to keep the two packs from tearing each other to pieces. So of course he didn't actually tell her anything about this yet, despite it all being his own idea.

But if what Tony was saying was true, there was no other option but to tell her in the end, and hope for the best. "Don't worry," Winston grumbled, "she knows." The western wolf glared at Tony. "You guarantee that your wolves will stop these foolish games, and she will meet Garth." Now that he said it, the prospect of potentially fighting the Eastern pack felt like a much better alternative than having to break these news to his daughter. But what choice did he have? The safety of the pack came first.

Depending on how often you will be home, I think I'll prefer to wait for better posts rather than get more, but worse ones. And I don't mind you changing the dialog around like that.
