Familiar throughout The Lion King realm, Tanabi is known as the male cub of Simba and Nala at the end of the first movie. It was so commonly the name of the cub that it became better known than Kopa, the name of Simba and Nala in The Lion King: Six New Adventures. Technically there’s no proof that Disney ever went with this name. So how did it come about? It was used on the TLK Mailing List, then in fan-fictions and role plays. So after awhile people began to believe that Tanabi was canon. He’s really a fandom character, so to speak. There’s no official design but it’s believe to be very Simba-like. There are even a very few fans who portray Tanabi as a girl cub instead of male. However, he can still be considered a character of The Lion King, as you can insert him before, after, or even instead of Kiara.
