Damian's story starts out real sad. He was genetically engineered in an illegal lab. The scientist were attempting to create/clone Phantom Snow leopards. Phantom snow leopards have a single gem stone on their forehead that contains a large amount of power/magic. Because Phantoms can only breed once every six years, scientist were trying to create a sub-species that could breed more often, making it easier for the scientist to learn to harness the Phantoms powers.
Damian was one of the first mutated cubs to be born but was cast aside by the head scientist because of his "unseemly color" and his lack of a gemstone. A scientist by the name of Boruz was given charge of the care of the rejects. He noticed the mood swings that Damian suffered from and often would take notes on his mannerism, hoping to better understand what they had created.
A year later a political uprising shook the African country where the hidden facility was located. One day the rebels found the compound. They broke in guns a fire, plowing down scientist. Boruz with the knowledge that his lab would soon be taken made one of the last decision he would ever make. He ordered for all the caged Phantoms to quickly be released before the rebels could get a hold of them. Among the Phantoms release was Attia and her sister Thistle.
One of the assistants inquired what was to be done with the others, all the genetically engineered specimen. Boruz looked to Damian and scowled. "They are too unstable to be allowed into the wild, we know nothing of their abilities. And now we never will."
As the sounds of screams and gun shoots reached his ears Dr. Boruz instructed all the remaining specimen to be killed before the rebels could get their hands on them. But the doctor hadn't counted on Damian's intelligence. The leopard fought and killed the assistant who was attempting to give him the fatal shot. At that moment the rebels broke into the lab and all heck broke lose. In the confusion Damian escaped into the jungle.
