Tembo was walking along with Mpendwa. Suddenly she heard a little wail.
"What was that?" Mpendwa asked.
Tembo followed the sounds. It sounded like a baby. She looked down and saw a tiny little lioness cub.
"Mother! Why is that thing here?" Mpendwa asked.
"Hush, Mpendwa," Tembo scolded gently. She touched her trunk to the squirming little cub. "Why, she's an orphan... I'll take her in as my own."
"Mother, I-"
"Mpendwa. Do you want to see this cub die?" Tembo asked.
Mpendwa shook her head. The little elephant calf hated death, even of predators. She knew that, and so did Tembo... she couldn't bear watching the death of any creature. She just couldn't...
The small calf sighed. "Mother, I believe you're doing this on good intentions... okay. What will we call her?"
Tembo thought long and hard. "... Msaada."
