Uchungu is a very arrogant lioness. She hates cubs, but a male that took over her pride forced cubs on her. To show her hatred for them, she gave them terrible names. She named them Laana (curse), Kulia, (to weep) and Kijinga (stupid.) Finally fed up with the cubs, she went hunting with her cubs, and she came back without them, claiming that they were carried off by a hawk. She was happy without her cubs, until they returned. She refused to acknowledge them as her own, until one of the lionesses pleaded with her. The lioness begged her to train her cubs. Uchungu agreed, but trained her cubs so hard in battle moves and hunting poses that she gave every one of her cubs terrible scars, and even blinded Kulia in one of her eyes.
