When the boys didn't come home when they were supposed to Kovu and Themba, Vitani's mate, searched the land for the cubs' scent.

They looked everywhere, from the waterhole to the Elephant Graveyard and from the Outlands to the gorge. Kovu picked up a faint scent now and again, but the trail led them nowhere. Disheartened they went back to Pride Rock.

"We have to organise a search party in the morning. Send one to every corner of the Pridelands," Kovu said after gathering the pride.

Kiara didn't want to wait untill morning, but it was a new moon and pitch black out, even with the faint light of the stars up above. She felt the same terror as when she had lost Kato's brother to the rogues, the same sadness when her father passed away not too long after Kato's birth.
"Please watch over him, father," she pleaded the stars.

The next morning Kovu, Themba and Vitani organised the party's, but Vitani would stay with Kiara and the older lionesses, including Nala, who left the cave less and less, age finally catching up to the mighty huntress.

Near noon Vitani spotted Kiara on Pride Rock, gaze fixed on the horizon. She climbed the rock and walked up to her friend.

"You know they'll find them," the sleek lioness said.

"I know they will," the golden one sighed. "I'm just so scared of what they will find."

"Our sons are tough, Kiara. We have taught them so much all ready." Vitani noticed the others shoulders trembling. She sat down next to her and wrapped a paw around Kiara, who broke down in tears. "I know, I know.."
The tan lioness turned her gaze towards the horizon. Please bring them home alive........
