Description:
Overall, Kumi is a rather compact and slightly small lion. He is thick and strong, but not at all weighty. He is shaped like a Pridelander, though he was born a loner, his mother Kipepeo may be distantly related to them.

His fur is a soft, light creamy tan color, and is faintly scruffy and short. He almost seems grayish at times, the hue of his fur sometimes appearing dull. His subpelt reaches up to mid-neck, like most males, and is a oddly darker tan-gray. His muzzle is also this color, as well as all of his toes.

Kumi's eye shadowing is a deeper gray-brown, darker than his subpelt. This color is on both the underside and upperside of his eyes. It is also the color of his inner ears. This darker effect makes his eyes appear brighter.

His mane is quite ruffled and scraggly, almost identical to his father's. It is very contrasting to his body--being a very dark brown. (This is the color on his ear rims too.) He has a three-way tuft that decorates his head, like Hekima's, and it also shows up as a cub. He gained his mane very early on, and it grew fast into a full, thick mane.

Kumi's eyes are a pearly blue-tinted gray. They may seem dull, but are always sparkling. His "whites" are a light yellow. His nose is grayish-brown-red, and is squared like that of a Pridelander's--his mother's nose.

Personality:
Unlike many lions, pride and power would not be considered one of Kumi's attributes. He barely has a temper, and it takes much for him to fully be angered. He is quite peaceable, and would rather talk than fight. He believes that the world should have less anger in it.

Kumi is compassionate and calm, always stopping to assess a situation and learn before outright jumping in headfirst. He is collected and sometimes appears slow, but he is a deep thinker and a very caring lion. He values friendships, and sometimes is hard to get to trust, because he wants to feel secure around others.

He is often a bit shy, and doesn't like to speak very much. He prefers not to be in the center of attention, but enjoys getting noticed by a few. He is selfless and gentle, and would never harm anyone without good reason.

As a cub, he was slightly more outgoing. Being without a sibling, he was often very bored and would get into some trouble more than once. When he met Hashiki, he quieted down to be the calm adult he now is.

History:
Kumi was born in the area still known as the Outlands. He wasn't related to the Outsiders at the time of TLK2. His parents were just nomad lions, but they raised Kumi in the Outlands after his mother gave birth as they were passing through. They couldn't leave until he was old enough, but decided just to stay anyway because it became sort of a home, desolate as it seemed. However, they were better off than the Outsiders because their location was a bit more green and lively.

Kumi's parents bore the names Kipepeo ("butterfly") and Hekima ("wisdom"). They raised their single son effectively, and he learned to conserve and respect nature because of his surroundings. He had no friends when he was younger, but when he met Princess Hashiki he became quite attached.

From the day he met the spitfire Pridelander cub, he spent most of his time with her. They never told anyone about each other, and as they grew, almost obviously they fell in love. Hashiki returned one day with the young loner to Pride Rock, and he was accepted.

He left his parents that day, but they had been expecting him to leave for his own life. Kumi stayed with Hashiki ever since. He became the King, and eventually he and his mate had two cubs, a son named Kiburi and a daughter named Furaha.
