Leonard is the eldest son of Falco and Saki. As a cub, he saw his parents be murdered before his own eyes by Zira. After escaping Zira's wrath, him and his siblings created the Bakar Pride. It was created for those who were considered the "outcasts" of both the Outlands and Pridelands. The Bakar Pride is neither enemy or ally to the Pridelands, but due to who Kovu's mother is, Leonard prefers not to have his pride come in any contact with the Pridelanders.

As a teen, Leonard meet Athena, a rouge whose parents deserted her. The two fell in love and in their late teens, had their first daughter, Reina. However, when Zira found this out, she stalked Athena one night, and murdered her. Since then, Leonard become cold-hearted and was very protective of his daughter and his pride.
