"Hey....hey you. Why are you crying?"

Surprised, Nala looked up....straight into the crimson pupils of an unusually scruffy--and slightly older--lioness cub; an expression of curiosity etched into her face.

"I...." Nala stammered, as another tear slid down her cheek, "who are you?"

The older cub sighed. "My name is Zira, but that's not what I asked. Why. Are you. Crying?"

"My name is Nala." the green-eyed cub replied, wiping the tears away with her front paw.

The scruffy cub--or Zira--glared at her flatly. "Aaaaand....?"


Nala sighed--though it sounded more like a hiccup. "I was getting to that!" She squeaked, turning to better face her addressee. "I...." She paused, her heart sinking to her stomach. "....I was crying because I just lost my best friend...."

I KNOW Zira is much older than Nala, but I couldn't resist putting this theory together: it just makes so much sense to me. Why Nala is more accepting of Kiara and Kovu's love, how she knows Vitani's name....

Well, it works in my mind, anyway.

So I'm going with it. In ONE TLK universe anyway
