I use Photoshop 7... haven't used SAI, what does that stand for? The hardest thing is finding the right colour to shade with. Though I just make a new layer, get a colour a little darker than my darkest colour, and have it's opacity on 30%. But with traditional, you shade before you colour. It's harder than Digital, as far as I know. Done with both, and DO think traditional shading is harder, mostly cuz it's harder to fix an error. :/

huh i dont really know what SAI stands for... i want photoshop it seems so awesome. i found shading to be just plain difficult no matter the median

It's probably cuz you're having to guess where to put the shading, and be sure it it's the right intensity, well that's how it is to me.
